Hey guys I took to my car to a shop to get a new clutch installed with a new pressure plate and new throw out bearing with a resurfaced flywheel. The cars feel great with more power, but the clutch pedal hads alot of vibrations when I 'm driving, does it need to be readjusted? The new clutch is also really sensitive in first gear. How many miles should I take easy for? and also my check engine light came on, ten minutes after driving it, any ideas why? I'm going to take it back in the morning.

this is what my mechanic told me

The clutch pressure plate fingers were uneven. You can't really see it with the clutch out because the fingers all hit their up stops. A couple of things can cause this. The diaphragm spring (which the fingers are part of) could be warped, the pressure ring could be made with a high or low spot where the spring contacts it, or the clutch disc could be warped and causing the pressure ring to ride crooked.

In any case, the same fix applies to any of these problems; a new clutch.

i had horrible clutch rattle, maybe youve got the same

It's more of a vibration then a rattle and I'm not hearing any noises, but If I lift the pedal with my foot it stops. Could I need a clutch adjustable cable? Hopefully those sons of b#@$@ won't give me any shit, They always trying taking advantage of younger people because we're not as experienced in mechanics as they are.

for your cel? it'd be nice to know what engine you have or year.
If I had to take a blind guess, I'd say o2 sensor. because they had to come out along with the mid pipe to r&r the tranny.

It's a 95gt with a 5.0, so I might need to replace the o2 senors? the cel was never coming on before.

There should be no vibrations at all. If they are there now, and weren't there before, then something went wrong on the install.

Time to pull all that stuff back out.

Paul.

I think that is a lean code for bank 1 or 2.
could be o2's. you could change it from one side to the other to see if the code changes to 171.
then you'll know for sure.

if you pick your car up and have a vibration from the piece that they just repaired, or any other piece that was not there before you should turn right around and go back to the shop, not ask us what it could be. You taking out now means that you could have done anything from a huge burn out to just beating the hell out of it to cause this problem, but the shop now has no idea what could have caused it. At the very minimum call them and tell them what has hapened but I would get it back there asap before they tell you to kick rocks because you took too long.

I took it back and the owner himself test drove and said it was normal for a new clutch, that I just have to break it in, and I also got 3 months warranty with the install. The car actually feels better with more power, and the code was for left bank o2 senor. Should I just replace both of them?

if they're old, prob wouldn't be a bad idea.

If you have a vibration with full clutch engagement, then there is something wrong. Clutches don't vibrate just because they haven't "broken in yet." That dude is full of shyt.

The vibration is only felt on the pedal when I'm driving it, not when I engage in the clutch. I 'm going to drive to everyday for a good amount of miles, if it doesn't change I'm going to take it back to that sob.

something isn't right man, and I think part of the problem is the shops inability to admit there is something wrong. Just for giggles take it to another shop and ask them if they think it is normal? The clutch shouldn't shake when it is on or off....

i highly reccomend you to check everything out yourself, as most of the shops wont give any guarantee after you drive your hot rod off their parking lot.

I recently found a vid on how to install a clutch on youtube:
which i found pretty interesting and gives you a good explanation on what NOT to do lol

Clutch install video

I highly suggest you to do it yourself.
you save a lot of money and learn a lot.
good luck

Javi, If I had all those tool I would give it a try but I don't know squat about changing a clutch, Since I don't have a job anymore I can't afford to take it to another shop, I could barley afford to get this clutch installed and as soon as I get that cel to clear I 'm getting rid of it.

I would try a new cable. could be stretched. I just installed a centerforce dual friction on my notchback and broke it in, clutch engaged great in and out but like you while the pedal is out could feel the throw out bearing as it squeaked
like most do.lol I put a fresh cable and it was gone. I hammer the piss out of it daily with no issues. Ford throw out bearings are the worst.lol Love my stangs though.
