Well, I was wondering what was smelling like anti-freeze in winter in my engine bay, and we found(not so hard to find) leak from the lower intake manifold on my 5.0L, I think its normal wear as the engine has 208k on it. Anyways since we are taking the whole thing apart to get to the gasket next month, I was wondering what would be a good Upper/Lower intake package to get to improve my performance? I hear good things about the GT40 intakes, or is there something with more bang for the buck out there right now?

if you want bang for buck the gt 40 is a great intake you can get one from the junk yard out of a explorer and clean it up or try and find a used 1994-1995 cobra intake you can pick them up for around 200 bucks, or you could just replace your gaskets now it would only take you about 20 mins then save up for a trick flow or some like that

to be completely honest, an aftermarket intake on a stock motor is going to improve looks, and that is about it.

Performance gain is minimal.

Thats another reason to go with the GT40 off an Explorer. It would give you all the motor could handle AND be the best bang for buck.

That explorer intake looks like shit, at least get something that looks nice like the real GT-40 or a Cobra. Im selling my extrude/honed cobra intak this week if everything works out.

Wouldn't I get even a little performance intake from a better upper/lower intake combo? The real GT-40 ones on ebay are those tubular ones right? If so that should fit my car with no adapters and under the stock hood? The combo goes for like $500 on ebay, but I have to replace my driveshaft U-joint next week as I still have finals this week. EDIT: Well I found out I can get about 15hp increase according to another site on a stock motor. Next question, What else will I need to to get GT40 upper/lower intake to fit? I hear you need to buy this elbow adapter...

You will never see a 15HP gain with a stock E7 motor and an aftermarket manifold. Not going to happen bud. Power comes from velocity. Your going to have air move well through a manifold and then choke when it hits your stock heads.

You would probably gain more from a set of headers and underdrive pulleys.

to bolt a gt40 intake to your car, you will need an adapter.. companies like ford motorsport, trick flow, and i believe
edelbrock offer them for around $85

Oh, so these guys here are full of it? http://forums.stangnet.com/showthread.php?t=658213
They both are the same but the Cobra upper is a cast piece and is thicker. It'll suppert up to 350 hp where the GT40 can go to 425. The lower intakes are the exact same so either one would work. On a stocker you can expect 10-15 hp and more with more mods. Go with the GT40 and an elbow adaptor and you'll be set.

Thats what the guy says there. U joints on the driveshaft are really bad(vibrating like hell at 70km) So Im changing those tonight and doing a power steering flush, intake is to be done mid July hopefully.

just take it apart and gasket slap it for now... save up a few hundred more bucks and get some GT-40 or gt-40P heads and do it all in one shot
