Well, I did go with ARP for all the major components (ARP headstuds, ARP mainbolts, ARP 2000 rod bolts) but I am now at the point where I need a crank bolt and cam bolts. Do you guys think i should stick with ARP for these or would OEM bolts be fine?

its about a $20 difference for the crank bolt, and about the same for the cam bolts together

crank bolt, go ARP.. the OEM crank bolts on our engines aren't near the quality of ARP and should be changed out. just quoting the research i did through sean hyland and internet searches when i rebuilt my engine.

so, you guys think I should go with ARP crank bolt and I could get away with OEM stock cam bolts?

I'm sure you could get away with an OEM crank bolt too, never seen either one break, it's just fairly likely that you'll eventually remove the crank bolt, with ARP you can reuse it.

I use ARP everything, but that's because I over-build everything and have lost my damn mind.

I went with ARP for the crank and cam bolts because of the reusability but chose the Ford pieces for the main, side bolts. I also went with the Ford head bolts over the ARP studs just incase I need to pull a head off I won't need to pull the engine to do it.

And like Paul said above I generally tend to overbuild things also but was assured that the Ford hardware was very good and could handle a lot of power. So unless its something that could be unbolted frequently I went with the cheaper Ford hardware.

For the block, you do not need them. The heads are another story. I've seen the heads lift at 18lbs (Stock heads / 8.5:1) and 555rw and I never had issue with (9:1 FL heads) 17lbs and 620rw.

If you can afford them, and you are around those numbers, do it.

already bought them. i already have arp headstuds, arp mainstuds, oem side bolts, arp crank bolt, arp cam bolts, and felpro oem gaskets just ordered too. next step is to order cloyes adjustable cam gears and new timing chain kit, and i can completely build the whole bottom end up until my edelbrock victor jr.
