Okay so you may have seen a few of my other posts about oil leaks/pressure. Well I just found out something else.

I was discussing with a friend earlier, and I told him about a whining/whistling noise coming from the engine, that goes up and down as the engine revs. He said it could be a bearing going bad. There is no knocking or anything and everything else sounds normal.

This got me a little worried, but then I found out when a bearing goes the oil pressure goes down, Now I realize the stock gauges arn't so great but this is the first time ive seen a drop in oil pressure on the gauge (from right in the middle to between the O and R of normal...sometimes on the R.)

again, I know many of you have said the oil gauge is nothing to worry about, and when I originally posted about the whining noise people said that if the engine was running normal it was nothing to worry about...But now both things at the same time have me genuinely concerned.

Based on what I've said here, I want opinions. What could it be? and what's the worse case scenario, and what would it cost to fix?

help lol.

is the car a 5 speed? Does the noise go away when you push the clutch in?

And, if the answer is yes to both, the problem is probably the throwout bearing. As to the oil pressure gauge as noted in other posts functions as an idiot light. It's either in the normal range or zero, Fluctuations are usually caused when addition electric loads are applied and are the result of a bad ground between the engine and the chassis.

you could also eliminate any of the belt driven accessories by removing the serp belt.
Don't run it like this for long because the water pmp will not be turning. you'll be fine for a couple of minutes to listen for the whinning noise.
Make a diagram of the belt routing before you take it off.

Answer is Yes to both...However I should have mentioned I can not hear any whine at idle...only between 1500 and 2500 rpm it seems.
