My buddy, lococobra, just took his 03 Cobra to the track. He types his best time was a 8.11. I don't know jack about any of this! Is that an OK time? I'm thinking it might be because his car has a lot of perf upgrades! I think it just dynod @ 484-ish.

should be mid 12's. A stock 03 cobra runs 12.7 So he probably didn't get very good traction I'm guessing?

Sorry, I am not understanding what you replied with!! I put a 8.1, obviously on an 1/8 mile. You put it should be mid 12's. He said he missed numerous shifts. He was very upset with his time, as well! I'm still not understanding why you typed what you did. I'm not meaning to be a smart-ass! I just don't get it.

He is saying that would be mid 12 in the 1/4 mile. Which puts it into an easier number to understand for most people. For 484hp no that is not a good time. If he did miss shifts thats probably why.

use the et calculators you can get online to see what the times are for eighth and quarter. Typicaly there is 4 to 5 seconds between the two. A 8.0 in the quarter is around a 12.50 by the way the faster your car is the quicker it gets to the quarter from the eighth. A 7.0 in the eighth would be about a 11.0 in the quarter. If the cobra is in good working order and the driver can shift a low 8 should be cake with a termy :)

He should be running much quicker than 8's. unless he is on shitty street tires.

low 8s is moving, 8.0's is really moving but with a great driver and weather 7s is possible

I've jockeyed my roommate's old 03 cobra to a 7.60 flat in the 1/8th which was an 11.77 out the back door (1/4 mile). It dyno'd at 426hp to the tires. Sounds like he just needs some more time behind the wheel.

lol owned. But really, if he is putting 484 down then anything in the 8s sounds kinda high.

If he's on street tires and (god forbid) stock IRS, he should still be able to walk out first and get it in 2nd, 3rd, and on and stroll to a 7.90 at at least. With a good tire under it, it should get some 7.40s with a good driver...the operative word being "SHOULD." Tell him to keep his head up man and get some practice! 1/8th mile is where its AT! Thats your money maker. You only have one more gear change in the last 1/8th mile...thats boring. The burnouts, the launches and the 1-2-3 shifts are in the 1/8th..thats where the ACTION is. I go to the track and run the 1/8th to see how any changes I've made work out. Once thats dialed in, i go for the big end!

while all that is true, is alway seemed odd to me that when you talk to people they always want to hear " quarter " numbers and not the eighth. The eighth times are a foreign language to most people :nonono:

yeah a 8.1 isn't very good for a 485hp 03 cobra. i would say sub 7.50's would be where the car should run. my buddy just ran his 01 vortech bullitt last saturday night on the 1/8 mile and ran a 8.2. it has 410-420hp with 3.73's and street tires. his 60ft wasn't amazing, a 2.1 i think but his trap speed was 92mph i think. his car should drop into the high 7's and he is only at the very most 420hp..

He has Nittos on the back. I just spoke with him since running it. He said he missed 2nd & 3rd. He just not drive it much. He thinks he is just not used to it. It is not his daily driver anymore. He was very upset with his time! I am typing nicely for what he really said, too.

Just multiply his 1/8 time by 1.564 to get what his approximate 1/4 mile time should be.

Using that, an 8.11 would be a 12.68 in the quarter. However, this is a linear acceleration formula, meaning it doesn't account for cars that make a lot of power, and thus spin in the first half the track, and then back-half very well, but it gives a good ballpark.
