Just did a bunch of bolt ons in my 94 gt. It already had a ported cobra with a 75 mm tb 24 lb injectors, bbk shorty headers and magnaflow true-x x pipe and dynomax side exhaust.

I had a trickflow twisted wedge heads and stage 1 cam, along with an anderson power pipe and a lightning maf as well as a 3 bank chip with a tune on it for all of this. The car idles ok, a little high but not not too bad. It did start to surge after 10-15 mins of idling. I pops from time to time as well as dies. The guys I have working on it know carb'ed 302s but are not up to date with efi and what the 94 doesn't like. Is there anything basic they could have missed or not known what to do?

Re: damn my mustang is mad

Vav leak or the chip is just off. Did you set your timing to 10* you need to with the chip also fuel pressure at 39 psi

Re: damn my mustang is mad

not sure what they set the timing too. As soon as they would pull the spout it would start to pop alot more and didn't really seem to matter what they had it set too. Runnin the stock fuel pump at the moment how would I adjust it for 39 psi? Sorry for the stupid questions but I do not know much about motors and the guys working on it are all carb'd dudes...

Re: damn my mustang is mad

they were chasing the timing and probably have it too high. It kept dying when they had it too low and seemed to need the timing to idle. I will try to get a vid a little later as the car just sounds wierd but I know the cameras mic will not pick it up right....

Re: damn my mustang is mad

They said they thought then ended up putting it at 18 degrees timming scratching their heads the whole time because any lower and it would not idle. Any other ideas as to why it would not idle? IT was at about 900 rpm.

Re: damn my mustang is mad

prior to the new head/cam yes. With the new one we could not get it to idle less then 900.

considering it but was hoping the chip would help some at least. Not even sure if it is the chip so I would hate to take it there and find out it is something else that needed to be replaced/tuned rather then the chip.

you should get it to idle first without the chip. did you guys do a base idle reset. my car use to idle fine at 750 with the same cam. no tune. check for vac leaks. set timing to 10* do a base idle reset.

Someone asked that earlier and when I asked them if they did it, they asked what it was? I guess that is not needed on carb'd cars. If you can post a link to some instructions I will get on it first thing in the am. He has an 800 hp dragster he built/maintains himself so he knows 302's but his introduction into the sn world has not been so nice...

If it takes 18 degrees of timing and won't idle, distributor probably isn't stabbed right.

the first time they tried to start it up they said it was running really lean and when they pulled a plug it was just solid white. Could it have fouled out that fast?
