Every time I need to work around this thing it pisses me off beyond belief. It's impossible to work with and i want to replace it with soft coolant hose. Only problem i can see is where it threads into the lower intake there's the coolant temp sensor there too, do i need to buy another piece for that so i can keep the sensor and still run the soft line? Anyone done this?!

you should be able to remove the hard line and replace it with some quality rubber lines. my 68 fairlane had the rubber lines and never had a problem with them whatsoever. no reason you couldnt do it on your car as well

It doesn't work that well on these cars.

I'd advise to leave it alone. They are a pain in the ass but in reality they do there job correctly.

For one, it's fugly. For two I believe there is some internal valving for pressure in the heater core lines.

I had the hardlines cut off and a -10AN (or was it -8?) fitting welded in place. Then you can run a line straight from the water pump to the heater core, and another from the AN fitting. I think it's sitting in a bin in my garage somewhere.

I'd have to take a picture and show you for it to make sense. It's basically the OEM hardline fitting cut and adapted for AN fitting use.

i went down this road as well. getting the right hose to make the bends and correctly connect to the WP is a daunting task. you can tee into the intake for the coolant sensor. I absolutely DESPISE the hard lines - they freaking suck, and everything about working around them sux too! but - they are still on my car because they work the best.

What's the big deal with the hardlines? They've never been a problem for me. What are you guys doing that they're interfering with?

the bends wouldn't be a problem, i would leave the S bends from the firewall in place so it would just be two straight hoses to the front of the engine, seems like it would be pretty simple.

one of the lower intake bolts is under the bolt that holds down the hard line, and unscrewing the front of the hardline while it's on the car is a god damn whore. I ended up getting so pissed i just pulled up on the hard line enough to get the flange off the stud, then was able to unbolt the lower intake bolt. Also it's right ontop of the valve cover, i didn't think i could even get the valve cover off with that thing in place but someone said they could so now i'm not sure what I was thinking...

x2, even when I did my intake gaskets it wasn't in the way I just rotated it out of the way so I could get access to all the bolts.

Okay. I guess it wasn't that bad for me when I pulled it off for my intake swap. I just got my bigass wrench that fits it and unscrewed it a little bit at at a time. Besides, once you swap intakes you won't have to mess with it for a looong time. :)

yeah but it does take a long time, and it wasn't easy moving it to get to the bolt. If you never had a problem with it why'd you get rid of yours?
