55MPH was always circled or colored in cars built in the 70s due to the national highway system changing all speeds down to 55MPH to save gas. This habit lives on in many modern cars and obviously the occational aftermarket set...

My question is, how do you get the cobra one to work in a GT? wont the arrow point at the wrong MPH all the time?

isnt the GT a 140 MPH or something? and the cobra is 160? so that means the spacing is different to fit more numbers into the same spacing... So with different numbers and spacing the needle will be pointing at 60 MPH instead of 75 MPH (for example)

replace or paint the needles before you put it back in. they're sun-bleached like a mofo.

hit up MPSautosalvage, or a local junkyard and grab needles from a new edge.

im thinking of going with the 96-98 cluster simply due to the increased redline.... if i can find one for the right price i'll try out the wiring ive put together

I'd like to see how that looks. Is there a good way to swap needles without messing up the needle location?

I believe 94-95 the "55" mark was colored red. my 94 v6 had it but my 98 gt does not. Just like the way ford made the Scoops non functional after 96.

Also... The needles on the 94-95 were a bit of a yellow color... they are not sun faded. 96-98 is more of an orange. and 99-04 they were almost basically a red color. I prefer the clusters in the 99-04 over 94-98. Easier on the eyes.

get the engine up to temp and mark locations. I think the speedo just rests on the peg.

From one of your answers: "The year was 1973 and Richard Nixon signed the bill into law. Because he supported the new law, however, it was Jimmy Carter that most people "blamed" for the law. It was President Clinton who reversed this law."

The last part of this is incorrect. The nationwide 55MPH law was first repealed in 1987, allowing higher limits on rural interstates, with the support of the Reagan Administration. The remainder of the 55 limits were finally put to death as a national requirement in 1995, against the wishes of the Clinton Administration.

That's what it was
