The last part of this is incorrect. The nationwide 55MPH law was first repealed in 1987, allowing higher limits on rural interstates, with the support of the Reagan Administration. The remainder of the 55 limits were finally put to death as a national requirement in 1995, against the wishes of the Clinton Administration.
