I rarely look in the Regular Maintenance, so I might not remember I posted this! It's about oil changes. I last had my oil changed on 9/29/08 @ 126,115 miles. When I get my car back, the mileage will be around 126,322. It will have been about in maybe end of Feb to the 1st of March! That's about 207 miles, 6 months though! I need to have it changed, right? I know I posted this same deal a while ago! The search is not working, so I could not find it! Can y'all tell me again! Thanks a lot!

This time I'll put the answer in my phone.

I thought it was like 3,000 miles or 6 months, whichever came 1st. Who knows where I got this from though! It might be 6 months, but only 210 miles.

Once I get her back, I will rack up the miles showing it off though! You can move this now! I've logged it into my 'Mustang Facts' folder!!

i dont believe in the months, i think its more of a gimmick for oil change shops to get you back in for more money.

synthetic oil doesnt decompose as quickly as conventional oil... just do the milage or 2 times a year (summer oil, winter oil)

After doing some more research in this field I've found that the Wal-Mart brand SuperTech oil AND filters are very good products. Cheap too.

Also in case anyone didn't know the generic NAPA brand synthetic is actually Valvoline. Made by the same company. Napa filters are also some of the best as they are made by Wix. I've actually switched over to Wix since I deleted my crappy factory oil cooler.

myself personally. I recommend to my customers that dont drive much to do their oil change every 3k miles... or once a year... which ever comes first.

My fathers cobra gets done the same way. We change his oil just before putting the car away for the winter. that way its FRESH oil sitting in the car while its parked.

all manufacturers reccomend 3mo/3,000 miles for a service. yea some will say you dont need it but if you dont drive that much its gonna sit, ok do it spring and fall DO NOT let teh old oil sit in the car over the winter, think about how you feel if you eat a big bean burreato from 7/11 and dont shit with in the next 4 hours... not good ... CHANGE THAT OIL!!!

I check it before I head out anywhere. Like for over 100 mile trips. It doesn't look dirty/black @ all to me. I keep that Post-It on the inside top of my center console. While it was away, I had it in a box. Put the contents in the box back in it, forgot to look on the sides of the box. That is where I stuck that note! It will be done Monday, 8/3. I just am not used to having it, I guess. Totally a dumbass move on my part! That's just a normal occurrence now!! Thanks though!

I change it based on miles and miles only. It is well worth the money to send a used oil sample and have it checked to make sure it is doing it's job. For an extra $10 of so dollars you can have a TBS (toatl base number) and they can tell you how many more miles you can take the oil. It was/is the best $3x dollars I've spent.

I was going the wrong way on my days. It was 340 days since my last oil change. It was back on 8/28/08 to 8/3/09. I drove 2136 in that time frame!! Please know, for 227 of those days it sat in 1 place.

Would you still go by miles on that? I'm getting used to having my car each day! I will be much better now!

do not let oil set. it will begin to form a waxy buildup... i run synthetic and change it about every 4k... if it sets more then 3-4 months then change it..... also oil DOES NOT have a cold shelf life.... basically i mean that once oil has set in cold temp for an extended period, it will begin to turn into a waxy build up... there is a link in the maintenance forum that id highly recommend everyone read!!!
