Anyone have a clue as to what motor it is exactly. It's a 2001 or 2002 Mark 8, 32 valve DOHC and looks just like a Cobra motor. Located one here at a junk yard and got a really good price on it, I mean REALLY GOOD!!!!! Think I will just pick it up and set it in the back of the shop for a while untill I decide what to do with it. Getting the complete motor/harness/wiring for $350. Has 39K miles on it. Car was hit VERRY HARD in the rear by a pick-up. Also gonna steal the HID off it too and see if I can maybe get that modded in somehow?

not positive, I know for sure it's got a 4.6 DOHC motor in it though. I'm going back tomorrow to make the purchase so i will get some more info and pics when I get them. You think it's worth the $350??

I have not priced them so I cannot say for certain. Just recently however I went to the pick-a-part and plucked a 5.0 from a 92 t-bird (same as 94-95 gt stang) for $160. That day parts were half off, so the motor was only $100 + $50 core charge + tax. Normally it would have cost me $260+. Me and my little bro had to pull the motor though. 39K miles?! that's sweet! The one I pulled has 70K according to the odometer. It sounds like a good deal but I am not familiar with your environment so I can't give you a definitive answer. Hope I've helped.

make sure you find out what its from! Make sure its not from a Front Wheel Drive Lincoln Continental....otherwise the whole thing is friggen useless....besides the cylinder heads........

also, the Mark 8s were built from 93-98....and have the same heads and block as the 96-98 Mustang Cobra.

Why would the block be useless?

FWD blocks do not share the same bellhousing bolt pattern and I believe motor mount locations as a block from a rear wheel drive car....Useless for someone with a Mustang or any other RWD car....

Understood, but do you think they have 2 4.6 block designs?

fuel economy. to make a front wheel drive car saved them money. the blocks are not extremely different, but enough
difference that you could not slap it in a mustang without difficulties.

I don't believe that they made a 4.6 fwd for fuel economy. It's all about the gearing and programing, just look at the new vette. It was about saving some green and staying with the competition. Before they shoved a 4.6 in there it was a fwd (v6) chassis.
something else...

but no one has answered my question...

what question...?

A Mark 8 motor is a B-series 4-valve... shares the block and heads with a 96-98 Cobra. The intake, cams, crank, etc. are all different.

the Continental was also a 4-valve and later got "C" heads but the blocks are unusable for any RWD platform.
He is right, one of the motor mounts is different and the bellhousing bolt pattern is changed as well.

It is deffinatley a rwd Mark 8 motor. I'm going to head over there as soon as they open to see what I can get from this thing. I might just grab the heads off it and leave the rest since it's basically useless anyways!

U might as well grab the whole motor. The RWD Mark 8 cars share the same Teksid block as found in the 96-98 Cobra and share the same cylinder heads.................again ONLY IF ITS FROM A RWD car.........

Whether or not there were two 4.6 blocks.
I thought it might be like the 3.0 Vulcan block which was used in fwd and rwd platforms and is interchangable between the two.

yes they are two different blocks... one CANNOT be used for the other.

and yes I too would grab the whole engine. The Teksid block is very good, and if you dont need it they go for decent money to help recover funds.

geeze your a lucky man! I know down here it is hard to find a mark 8 motor, and if you do find one even at a junk yard don't think you can get it for under $500. I'd get it.

Mark VIII only ran until 98 but if its indeed a 4.6 DOHC from a Mark VIII then grab the entire thing if its only $350. You can sell the Aluminum Teksid Block for that and keep the Heads for your build. Or keep the entire engine and get a 96-98 Cobra Intake and have a cheap 4V swap.
