what all do you have to modify so the long tubes will fit? b/c ive heard there is a clearance issue with the steering linkage or something like that

When we put the Longtubes on my buddies '95 Cobra (he's running MAC's) there was no clearance or fitment issues. we did have to bend and push and tug on the new dipstick tube to make it fit in the hole, then around the LT's. His Engine was out of the car though. we put on the Driver side header while the engine was on a stand, then put the passenger side on once the Engine was in the car and bolted down.

I have equal length shorties, because my car is lowered and I thought that I might have clearance issues

I would love to get a set of longtubes. I am afraid of my roads though. I already have problems and my car isn't even lowered. i am still going to drop it a little bit and get some more shocks. That should help it get stiffer. What would you guys do

BBK

Or

Bassani

Which shorties would you guys get ???

As someone who was about 20 years old when "shorties" came about......

Headers had ALWAYS been what you refer to as "long tubes". Through the 60's in the heyday of drag racing and muscle cars all the headers were long tubes. That's what headers were, nothing else, and continued this way on up through the 70's.

In the 1984/85 (not sure which) Ford was riding high on the Mustang GT again. Ford introduced what you refer to as "shorties" so that they could say "Factory headers", which was an excellent marketing tool for a car with musclecar heritage. Better than manifolds, but not the same as "real" headers, it was a great selling point, and they were cheaper to produce and easier to install on an assembly line. That is how "shorties came about, as a marketing ploy.

For me the only headers that there are is the real ones........now referred to as "long tubes". There's a reason that is how headers were made in the heyday of performance.

How easy is it to get the Lt's in on the sn95? I have had other cars with Lt's and it seemed like I always had to jack the car up like 10' or remove a motor mount on one side because it just wouldn't quite make it or some BS like that to get them in.

Ok, first, my cars lowered 2inch, no clearance issuses at all, none, scrapes the same as my stock exhaust. second, im running an aod, it was a bitch to install, i mean ruthless. i have a about a half inch on each side of the collector, i went to town on custom surgery lol, my o2 sensor in the pas side doesnt fit so i had to drill it into my o/r H lol. They sound fuckin wicked, meannnn!!! if your gunna do it yourself get your car high ass in the air and do it from underneath (learned that the hard way lol). Im running mac the hole way front to back, sounds mean, i got a post in the mm section check it out.the trouble was worth it, but if you have aod like me, id go shorties, it took me and 2 other ppl 12hours to do the whole system in the pouring rain ( ya fun in vancity bc). But anyways go nuts man, the look good and most ppl look at me like im nuts when i tell them i got lt's on a slammed ponie.

I plan on switching to LT due to the fact I spend 95% of the time under 4,000 rmps were LT seem to really shine.

i think as long as u dont have your stang slammed u shouldnt have to worry bout your long tubes draggin to much, that is unless u are goin across so really uneven terrian which is a givin anyways so just pay attention to where u drive. me personally id say there worth havin just even if i have to pay more attention to where i drive and this is comin from sombody whos other vehicle is lifted about 6 inches sitting on 35's and used to running over ruff terrain and not worryin about where i drive, so there worth the sacrifice to me but to each his own opinoin which is what makes this forum so great due to the differnent outlooks on ideas and how u want your stang. You wouldn't be able to keep the O2 sensor in the OEM location because it would have to be attached to a single primary tube rather than the collector.

lt's because even at the dragstrip you still have to get to 4k rpms and why not have the advantage getting up to it since they both perform equally above 4k rpms? lt's would be the logical way to go unless you are on a budget, and if you're on a budget you shouldn't be buying stuff for your car lol
