My park brake handle has been loose since I got the car, it wiggles from side to side. It's been that way for a while because the covering on the drivers side has been worn away from rubbing along the console. Is there a way to fix the side to side looseness, there's one bolt that's easily visible from the top i tightened it up a little and it didn't fix anything. If I just need to replace the whole assembly, how difficult is it?

I'm not really sure if there's a cheap fix or not, but they have complete new handles/mechanisms on LMR for 1999-2004. I'm not sure if they're compatible with ours though...They're $130.

I was looking at those. How difficult is it to swap them out, is it just a matter of loosening the cable, then unbolting and bolting the new one back in?

I've never done it, but I bet it could be a pain if you have to pull the cables tight to attach them to the spring. Not sure though.

If I remember correctly the is a "ratcheting" type mechanism that i believe helps tightened the cable.

You can sort of see it in this picture but its where the red Line points to and you can adjust the position of that to accommodate cable stretching and tension

I had this issue. Came to find the P.O. had done me the favor of putting some very interesting hardware on the e-brake. I wouldn't even be able to explain what it was lol. I replaced it with a good grade 8 bolt and a washer on top and one underneath and a nylon lock nut. No problems since.

when my car was stripped down i inspected mine... the wiggle is only in the handle, not in the base connected to the car. :(
