mach1 shortblock... suggestions

My father has been looking around at cars for my little brother and he has stumbled across an 04 mach 1. Thing is bone stock with 30k on the clock however... it has a rod knock at WOT...

The guy is asking 9grand for the car which is like 3grand under its blue book value... I have all the ford cam tools here at my shop. So I was talking to him about the idea of picking up a short block and going that route as opposed to rebuilding the bottom end...

Thoughts? Suggestions on who makes a good short block in NJ? And we don't need anything race ready. The car will probably stay pretty stock for my brother... He just wants a nice car to drive...

modular mustang racing has mod 600 short blocks for 2499 with a cobra iron block or the alum block version for 2799. they have other options but id assume you would use as much as u can off the mach. or u can get a mod 900 for 2899 for the iron block or 3199. so if you feel you will add power one of these wouldnt be a bad choice for right around 3k or less.

why not just rebuild the whole thing and make it better then it was?

and for a knock.. hit him down to like 8k... 30k original miles doesnt mean crap when the engine is, well, shit

Call Matt Hill Motorsports, tell him Duffy sent you and talk to him about getting you a streetable engine. He could try to use your old block, do a little over bore, use good internals and keep the stock head configuration with the cams degreeded and youll be fine !

not worth it to rebuild now a days... Won't save much after all the machine work and such... its just easier... If it was an old fox then thats exactly what we'd do... Would much rather make it a 2 day project as opposed to a week or 2 long project...

I'm pretty sure that would lower his compression ratio since the gts have more of a dish to make up for the small combustion chamber

And gt's have different rods..

But honestly take the one apart, a stock rebuild isn't too bad. And as far as price, power, reliability, the mmr900 cant be beat. Bunch of local guys are running them, from stockish cars up to kb/sprayed cobras.
