well me an my friend got in a arugment last night about machine work. he told me that i could just bore out my block .030(to make a 306) and thatsall i got to do, since there nothing wrong with my motor. I told me that i need to get my whole motor machined. If i just told a machine shop to punch it out .030 they will probably look at me funny and tell me that i should machine the whole motor. Is my friend right at all? I really dont want to go to ther machine shop and look like a dam ass. Im going to throw in speed pro forged pistons .030 over and use my stock crank and rods, gt40 heads, crane 2031 cam 1.7rr typhoon intake. hoping to get 300hp n/a and im adding nos 150 wet kit woot woot :headbang:

if your motors running fine, theres no point in boring it.

Oh, and if you want 300 to the wheels, i suggest getting a set of heads above all.

Sure you can do just the bore, but why? if it's running fine - just curious.

Take it to the machine shop, tell them you want it bored .030 over and the block cleaned and ready for install. I guaruntee you they will look it over completely and call you if it needs anything more than a bore/hone.

300 RWHP is not possible with the average GT40 Iron heads unless you get them professionally ported to the max and have larger valves installed (1.94/1.60) - the stock 1.84/1.54 valves are not large enough imo to make 300 RWHP.

My buddy made 281 RWHP with GT40's and they were ported pretty well, nothing pro though.

His combo was pretty simple actually..

K&N Panel Filter
Pro-M MAF 24lb
GT40 Heads - ported with stock valves
Crane 1.72 Roller Rockers
Crane 2031 Camshaft
Edelbrock Performer Intake
24lb injectors
Mac Underdrive Pulleys
FRPP Ceramic Shorty Headers
Mac Prochamber
Dynomax Race Magnum Catback
3.73's

my buddys 87 made 308 rwhp with stock cobra heads, aftermarket gt-40 intake, b-cam with 1.7 rockers and the rest off the bolt on stuff, and 3.73's

Some how that is EXTREMELY hard to believe but anything is possible.

Theres no way being as cast. Something must be going on in order for that to happen

he was on the dyno last september, i think he might have 1.90/1.60 valves in it but i do know that they are unported, i said anythings possible when my car thats an auto pulled around 270 with the stock cam, just heads, intake, 1.72 rockers, headers, the rest of the little bolt-on stuff, and i think i had the injectors on also, most auto cars with the stock cam rarely will see past 260 hp, one of the guys that goes to the track that i go to has a 95 gt 5 speed with afr 165, steed 19 cam, track heat intake with full bolt ons and he said his car only put down 275 when it was tuned

I'm not letting Cletus the slack jawed yokel take a round file to my cylinders...

To me block machining consist of a full BLUEPRINT.

The means deck height off mains, off the oil pan oils, main diameter and runout, cam diameter and runout, cylinder taper and concentricity. I could go on and on. There's alot more that SHOULD go into an engine than a simple tank, bore, and hone...

On the flip side, the factory does none of this shit, and their junk runs 200k, so... Up to you.

Quit getting hung up on RWHP numbers that are thrown around the Corral like confetti... Plenty of stock cam car's in the 10's. RWHP does not equal ET, lap Times, throttle response, or dick length or diameter anyway. So basically, it means, literally, nothing at all.

+2.

It's utterly pointless to bore out a perfectly good motor. You'd see 5hp LOL

uh yeah because hp and tq have nothing to do with how fast the car accelerates and how it performs up top

Im debating if i want to put forged pistons in it, im going to run nos like 150shot also it would just be refreshing the motor so it doesnot burn and more oil

Not as much as you think, if I can run a 13.4 with 178 rwhp in a 3500 lb car, it ain't about the power.

imo u can make not much but over 300 hp with gt-40 head, gt-40/cobra intake and a CUSTOM grind cam, no need for the 1.7's with a custom cam tho
