I asked this a while ago and I beleive someone told me it wouldn't work. But I grabbed one off a mountaineer anyway to see if I could fit my sensor part into the housing. One of the saftey torx screws has something over top of it that needs to be burned off, or pryed off if possible? If I get around to trying it out before someone can get you a clear answer I'll post it up for you man. I thought the explorers came with 19# injectors, but they have a better spray pattern. I read that on here somewhere I'm pretty sure...
So far I know to get it to fit, you will have to go to pepboys or whatever and buy a velocity stack adapter (it's like 15 dollars in the ricer section) and probaly drill holes to get it to line up correctly. I pulled out the maf sensor and it looks alot like our unit, maybe tommorow I will see if I can put mine inside....
I am not sure if they have 24lbs but if they do then the mafs won't work. You cannot use the MAFS because its for stock injectors in an explorer and if the explorer has stock 24lbs and your car had stock 19lbs then your ECM in the mustang will think its still stock 19lb injectors not 24lb. As far as I'm know you always will need an aftermarket mafs to work with the larger injectors unless you get a tune on the stock mafs or a larger(lightning) one. My stock 94 supercoupe had 36lbs stock and theres no way you could put a super coupe mafs with injectors in a mustang and expect them to work correctly.
Whats the reason you want to use the explorer housing? Anyway it still won't work because everything reads off of the sensor not the housing. So your stock stang sensor will still think its stock injectors. Theres no way to get around it without a tune if you want to use a stock ford mafs out of anything with bigger injectors.
http://sn95forums.com/index.php/topic,40921.0.html I'm not sure if the link will work but it's from page 5 of this section, The topic name is gt40 heads? The fourth post in is from ryno8705, he says they have 19# injectors, but they have a better spray pattern then the stock injectors in the mustangs. The explorer housing would be able to bolt up to a cai unlike our stock one, which is why I was interested in it. It was free so I thought it owuld at least be worth a shot...
Yea the 4bolt flange was what i was talking about bolting the velocity stack adapter onto, then it would have a spot to mount the filter or more piping too. If I get this coldair kit hopefully I can get it to work, the housings are so damn pricey for an aftermarket one, I don't think our stock maf housings can be mounted to a cai can it?
Heres what I found out:
the "original" 19s were a Bosch design I pintel injectors with one hole, the Explorers are Bosch design II with four small holes in the disc and are better at atomizing the fuel - more homorgeneous mix - maybe get some more power with a faster burn.........Bosch also makes the larger original Design I body with the 4-hole disc for newer cars.
I'll give it a shot, I'm doing a mild build on an extreme budget, so I guess we'll find out. I only paid 20 dollars for my gt40 upper & lower, tb, injectors & rails, and the maf & housing, so it's not like I'll be losin money
Yea, i have a set of them when I cleaned my maf lol, but for some reason on the explorer, only one of the bolts has a black platic cap that is kind of melted onto it for some reason. I just used a pair of pliers to loosen it.
well I tore my stock airbox and maf assembly together, and........They are exactly the same size. They may even be the same part number lol. So you do not need the explorer maf, because it's the same as your mustang.
