ME vs '93 RHD RX-7

So last night an old work friend of mine called me up and said he was back in town after getting his RX-7 motor rebuilt and finally broken in and wanted to line them up. We met up and just drove around for awhile, neither of us really wanting to get the race set up. I eventually dropped to second gear and at around 3000 rpm we took off till the top of 3rd and I would say I had about 2-3 cars on him. After that we went out to an old country road and went from a dig. I gave him a slight hit and then went. we went from 0-110 and I put about 4 1/2 to 5 lengths on him by the end. Im sure he has a rebuilt 13B with some other work done but can never get a clear answer. All in all it was a pretty good time. Thats about the only action I can get around here, but at least it keeps me out of trouble.

yes it was turbo with some modifications just not sure on what, the guy wont really say.

yeah u can usually cut a rotary's ass from a dig. torqueless wonders. they rev high as hell and i love the sound of them but they dont have any torque to pull them off the line. good job

The RX7's stockish are not all that fast. I think they were rated at 260 hp at the crank from the factory. With stock turbos and small mods he is probably making 260-280 at the wheels. You have more torque and you should be making more power also so you should have beat him just like you did.

stock they run high 13s low 14s, nothing spectacular.

250ish horsepower at the crank
NO torque
2750-2900 curb weight

basically, he'd need some descent mods to pull even an NPI vortech'd car...

yeah I had it to the track before the FMIC last year. It was hotter than heck and here at 3800' in Calgary its slow time but I ran 13.9 at 105 mph with a 2.1 60'.

yeah I guess. Its a pretty good time for the elevation from what I can tell when watching other guys race.
This year should be better I hope with the FMIC and such.

go to dragtimes.com and put in the track, the date, and get the DA, elevation, temp for that day, plug it into the calculator and it'll givie you an idea of what you'd be in perfect conditions.

agreed with a good run...

most stock LS cars trap near 105 but only run mid 13s or so... 12s on 105mph is doable though with a good 60'..

my friend arts had a few fd's, with under 1000 bucks in used parts he made the sucker fly. an apexi downpipe and mid pipe, and a greddy catback, and an hks intake; wasnt much that could touch him. it woukd throw a 3ft fireball out the tailpipe when shifting between 1-2,2-3, and they do sound quite nasty! anotger buddy of ours had comparable mods on his tt300zx and a boost controller(dont know what he ran though), and art would kill him everytime

yeah they do sound really good. I'll try to get his exact mods from him. Also, 12/s would be nice. I'm getting 4.10's installed in a month or so too so that should help.

theres quite alot that can be done, many ways to port it, they are light as hell. some say they are ineffiecient, maybe for fuel mileage but power per liter they trump even hondas
