NickMckinney " Just got back a run on with basically a stock NPI motor with PI intake, offroad X, shorty headers, loudmouth catback, C&L plenum, and CAI on these small specs (in a Mustang)":
222/226 duration at 050
525/500 lift
108/114 centerlines
111LSA

"This is between the new Stage 1 and new Stage 2 NPI specs. This was the original Bullet Stage 2 cam advanced 2 more degrees. I don't think anyone has ever used the full intake valve to piston clearance of the NPI head to its full advantage. Plus I am seeing the NPI really prefers bigger exhaust duration and more exhaust centerline advance than a PI head."

Found this over at TCCoA, was posted in October. I wanna know more about this.
273 hp with just bolt ons, a pi intake, and stock npi heads?? hell yes!! Hope this is a sign of things to come for NA NPI motors.

Nick is a member here too isn`t he? Maybe he will chime in and let us know more. The thought of approaching 300 ponies with a NA NPI motor, and not much invested is very interesting. Have to do more research on this.

Yeah he pops in once a year or so.

I follow his stuff over on Corral and the research he and the guys at bullet cams are doing with 2V heads both styles is impressive.

Kind of makes you want to dig out the NPI heads from the garage and build one up doesn't it.

very good numbers, I myself rather take a 5.0 pushrod over the non pi or pi 96-04 gt's, but they can be nasty there better forced induction, but those are reallly good numbers for a non pi, I think either 5.0 magazine or mm&ff had "project red headed step child" and it was how to get 300rwhp n/a out of a non pi 96 gt, it was a good article they got 300rwhp out of a non pi with ported non pi heads and comp cams and bolt ons I belive look it up very good old article back from a few years back

Npi heads which are ported and worked will out folow comparable pi heads all day. This isnt new news. Npi stuff is cool but you can go fruther with PI heads then you can with NPI, if that makes any sense.

Actually, I don`t have to dig out anything lol. Motor is still stock NPI.

I know, but the point was this was an untouched stock motor. After looking through the thread again, the intake port had a mild hand massage only halfway in. So technically they are not ported and polished. That`s why i found it interesting. He was just playing with cam configurations and got 263 hp with a canned tune. Put it on a dyno and pulled 10 hp more out of it with nothing more than cams PI intake and bolt ons. I`ve been reading alot lately on PI vs. NPI, and I guess I`m just an old dog, but I don`t want to be part of the masses converting everything to PI. I wanna stay NPI and see what can be pulled out of it staying NA. I`ve built a few motors in my day(all chevy), but this is my first time with Ford, and I`m stubborn.lol

Well, I am a skeptic, most of you know that about me by now, lol. Ok, so a stock long block, with pi intake, will make what 210 hp maybe? and with the plenum, he doesn't mention tb and it has shortie headers which equate to basically no power gain at all, so these cams made over 60 hp difference? Hmmm. That's an amazing camshaft right there!

Quote from Nick Mckinney " I am starting to think that on a stock mild shortblock with the PI intake the NPI might end up being the better head for the only reason you can fit a better cam spec into it. Advancing the intake lobe on the cams to 106-108 seems to be a serious boost for the the 2500-5500 matching powerband of the PI intake. I have not found a single off the shelf cam anywhere that did this for the NPI head. It is very different from the stock NPI and PI cam specs as its about 9 degrees more advanced on the intake lobe and we are basically keeping the exhaust lobe near the same location. This also lowers the LSA which is another boost to the 2500-5500 range. I should have some more tests in a few weeks of the Stage 2 NPI cam."

I am definately with you, but the numbers look impressive. I am gonna be following his progress, few people have dedicated any time into 2v motors since the 3v came out. But I`m willing to bet there`s more to be had from these little 2v`s.

cool thanks, and since I kind of have access to unlimited time on a dyno and more than a few friends with npi cars, I might be able to do some independent testing on this in the future, say springtime sometime. I have a wedding to pay for and then our honeymoon, then it's on. If this is for real, I will be the loudest banner waver for this camshaft.

that's really impressive! It's about time that the 4.6L's are being unlocked like it used to be back in the day for 5.0's
