ok my bud just got his stang out after a year of sitting it has new plugs fresh gas and oil and when he starts it i has a little miss in it and once he starts driving the air fuel goes dead lean and the car starts jumping and jerking around and once he stops at a light or something it drops to about 300 rpms and almost dies out oh and the car threw a code about low volt at the TPS would that cause the car to cut lean ? and help will be great

Have you tried removing the MAF and letting it run for a minute and see what happens?

Or maybe the oxygen sensors need replacing? I've had the same problem twice before; once it was the MAF and once it was the O2 sensors lol

well he put a o/r xpipe on it also could it be that and we did get a tps and its not missing as bad but its running dead lean at high rpms and its not pulling hard at all idk what else to do

My car was jerking and backfiring. I replaced coils packs and plug wires and it ran smooth. Also o2 sensor could be bad.

well one of his o2s is not hooked up bc he broke it and just told me about so it has 3 hooked up now so would a fuel filter help any ?

Mine has been doing it also. I swapped the fuel filter and thought that solved it but its back. I'm waiting for my new coil packs and wires to come in so I can do a tuneup and new O2's etc.

OP, does the car have a wideband hooked up??? how do you know its going lean up top? a misfire almost always causes a rich WB reading because of the unburnt fuel passing the o2, so i doubt its a misfire. need more info.

ok we have wnet over everything we could think of new plugs we took the wire off my gt which are new and new tps nothing we took it out the road to see if its still running lean under a load and it does as we are heading back my dad calls me and says gas just started coming out from under the car came back to the house and the fuel tank filler grommet had dry rotted after 1 yr of sitting so its letting air in the gas tank so im gonna order that part and were gonna see what that does

Gas caps are vented so the filler neck leaking wont cause an issue.

Still wondering how you know its lean?

he put a air fuel thing in his car and u can watch the damn thing go dead lean when he pushed in the gas and that car just cuts out so well see what it does

has fuel pressure been checked? i'd check it under load... very doubtful its a misfire if its going lean when it happens.

what kind of air/fuel thingy was put on it, a gauge that goes back and forth rich/stoich/lean or an actual wideband that shows a reading from appr. 8.0-18.1????

sorry i was so short i was on my black berry it a air/fuel gauge and the only time its rich is at start up and then u can watch it fall to dead lean i know some people say u cant trust those things but when it goes lean the car starts acting funny and acts like its not getting any gas

ok new fuel filter and the old was was bad!! i cut it open and it was like some one had put mud in the thing and the gas that came out of it had alot of dirt and stuff in it so drained the tank and put fresh 93 in it and we see what it does now

didnt have to lower the tank had the car on a lift for everything but the car runs alot better but still has a few lil bugs so he got a superchip tuner for free so he said hes gonna mess with it some so well see were that gets us

well ya see his domb ass didnt have alot of gas in the car and i wasnt there when he drained it so idk how he did it it was already done when i got to the shop
