Well, I knew this was going to happen, especially after yesterday, but my clutch is acting messed up, more or less, the pedal is. We got a CRAP ton of rain yesterday which flooded 70% of the streets, and well, I had to drive to my friends house to pick her up for grad. Anyways, today the clutch cable is sticky, squeaks, hard to press, and is hard to get into gear, cant actually floor it and shift it anymore. Thing is, the tranny was rebuilt less than 2k miles ago and it has a new TOB and flywheel, both with same mileage. Now, would these be a problem with my clutch(centerforce dual friction) or my clutch cable(NAPA brand, probably 15000kms on it). It was squealing pretty loud at first today too, but that has now gone. I seriously don't see why guys like cable clutches over Hydraulic, cables are a PITA.

When we're talking flooded, how flooded? As in you got water through the clutch cable cover and gave your bearing a nice soaking?

a little below halfway up my wheels, I was underneath the car already (and took the cover off) and everything in the clutch area looks normal...

The same may not be said of your throwout bearing which may have a nice layer of rust on the inside of it. But as I tell customers, it's difficult to say without seeing the car. See, the thing pointing me away from the cable is that it's not very sensitive. Imagine it got water logged. All it's doing is going through a few points and wouldn't really squeak, and if there was a coating of water induced grime it would be scraped off pretty quickly. Bearings are more sensitive to environmental conditions.

There is something you can use that i have used before to prolong my clutch cable before i ordered a new one. It's cable lube like i use on my bike.

Although if the TO bearing stopped making noises the bearings could have fallen out. Did you hear any odd or metal sounding noises?? It could be just time to break down slide the tranny back slide a new TO bearing in there and replace the cable and be done with it.

I really REALLY hope it isn't the TOB, I just had the whole effing thing out(engine tranny) less than 4 months ago! I'm going to give it a few more days, if problem continues, action will sadly be taken :(.

When you took the old pilot bearing out how did it look??? Also did you have any marring on your bearing retainer? Did you also check the trans mount to the crossmember??

Old pilot bearing was in good shape, replaced it anyways, old bearing retainer was grooved and cut bad, got a new steel one put on with tranny rebuild and the trans mount is brand new.

Hmm I know this sounds stupid but it is a Very Common Mistake did you put the TO bearing in the Clutch Fork correctly and grease theclutch fork and also the pivot ball ?

Didn't do those last 2 steps, but TOB was put in properly lol. Me and my dad will probably take it out in a week or 2 if it continues, Since this is my DD, and I have been busy with grad, It has to wait sadly. The chances that my TOB are screwed again look very high, but we are going to wait it out a few days, hoping that it fixes itself lol.

Throwout bearing may not be sliding back and forth like it should.

lol that's a given. I'm going to try the clutch cable first as it is actually not too bad to drive for the first 5 mins, but then stiffens up and gets really hard and sticky, like the cable is seizing. I'm ordering a new cable monday, so I will see if that fixes it, if not, I have to rip the tranny out AGAIN :(.

went down this road a couple of weeks ago with fidanza and the 3.2 clutch. Your pressure plate is defective dude, end of story. my car had the EXACT same symptoms as yours. Fidanza had a bad batch of clutches go out and there manufacturing facility is now closed until they get it sorted out.. Unfortunately you're gonna have to pull that tranny back out... major pain in the ass I know...

I have a Centerforce Dual friction clutch, has been in the car for roughly 4-5 years now and aside from being noisy at times, has been a great clutch. Do you think the water messed up the pressure plate? Keep in mind this all started AFTER this huge flood we had.

oh I mustve misread I thought the clutch was brand new. It's still possible it went bad since it's been in there so long, but I don't know, you DO have the same symptoms as I did. Do you have any TO bearing noise in neutral, clutch out? Ridiculously firm pedal, can't change gears, etc. if yes, then your pressure plate is not fully disengaging. I noticed this on mine when i could not even get the clutch cable cover back on because the fork was sticking out further than it should...

It has been making a bit of TO bearing noise since I put it all back together in march(brand new TOB and rebuild tranny, same old clutch). I will try the cable as it's a lot cheaper and easier to change than a clutch, but if I need a new clutch, what would you recommend? I plan on Kenne bell-ing this car eventually so I'd like a clutch that can handle 350rwhp but still has good street manners...

I did the same thing because my firewall adjuster was all the way out. went for an adjustable clutch cable first, didn't fix a thing. might as well upgrade though while you're at it lol.

if you need a new clutch, I'd just go with spec. I'm going twin screw in october so I just put a stage 3 capable of 650tq. Honestly, for your setup a spec stage 2 is a great choice. 550tq rating so it gives you room to grow and it's a very easy going clutch and pedal feel is only a little bit stiffer than stock. Driveability is nice, but it packs a mean bite if you don't let the clutch slip lol.

Thanks for the help! That was actually the clutch I was looking at for the longest time, but haven't seen many people who have used them. Let's hope for the best, if not, well I get a new clutch lol.

no problem man.

yeah I've used all sorts of clutches so I can give you a description of each lol. The Stage 2 will do you just fine though, it'll last a looooong time so long as you break it in properly. If you want real balls though you can go for the stage 3 like I have. No slip, similar pedal feel to the stage 2, similar life, just the 6-puck GRABS and it's not traffic friendly... lol
