I've decided I REALLY need some HID's for the mustang. My OCD is kicking in and I really need to change a few things. Now my whole problem (the reason I don't have HID's now) is that I could not, for the life of me, find a quality set of smoked projector headlights. I've brought this up before and till this day have still not found a simple decent set. I've considered doing the whole "fab my own projectors" but it seems like to much work. Now I've come up with a final solution. I'm going to buy BOI (Blue Oval Industries) clear projector headlights (#HL1180 - pictured below). With that I'm going to remove the actual lense from the clear headlights and swap it with the smoked lense on my healights. Does this seem like a good idea to you guys? I'm taking a $130 risk here for a look. I'm just concerned that I wouldn't be able to put the projector lights in the oven to soften the glue (possible damage to the projector itself??). I dunno guys, the idea seems crazy for just a look but it seems like the only solution at this point. :dunno: :'(

I know exactly what you mean, I want HID's and projectors.
Just tried fitting some of those one piece halo ones' in there, they have projector's - that's why I got them.
Didn't fit at all and the tab thingies that clipped in the whole - all of them broke after 2 attempts to adjust.
stupid POS crap.

I'll be watching to see how your swap turns out.
I think it's so gay that nobody makes a good looking HL with good light quality for our cars.
they would sell a ton!

I looked at those one piece headlight sets also, but IMO I think they look bad and like they have too much going on. I just wanted something simple which I'm finding out is pretty much impossible to find. Will definitely update to show any progress if I do end up going this route. I just need to sorta act quick because BOI is selling those clear projectors on special for $130 now.

I never thought of buying the lights below and swappin some smoked lenses on them...

I'd do it but I'd have to buy the $130 projectors and the $200 smoked set right?

Wonder if I could smoke the lens myself......

Exactly, you would have to basically buy 2 sets of headlights. In the end though (for me at least) the look will be worth the price. I also thought about just smoking the clear lenses (possibly sending them to KB) but then they might not match with the side markers or it might be a little too dark cause they're painted.

I'm sure KB could lightly tint them rather than make them BLACK...

And you can probably heat up the corners and take them apart as well.

That way you only have to buy one set of lights....

If that is doable.. (buying one set and tinting them) I'd do it right now.

In your situation its a no-brainer for me. Buy the clear projectors, heat them up(oven or heat gun if you are really worried) then send the front lense to KB and have him smoke them, then to add to the 'smoke' look, paint the housing black and it will look like its dark smoked. The only problem i have with them is that you have a projector(HID 'regular' beams) but then they use a halogen housing for the hi-beam, if im gonna get HIDs i want ALL HIDs not just driving lights....but im picky. When i buy my stang im thinking of starting a little 'business' of fabbing up HID projector housing. All this ricer HId shit is dumb. so IMO, but the clears, smoke them, then paint the chrome part black and there ya go....all you ever wanted

I'm almost positive that is doable! We would just have to get KB in here to see if he is willing and able to do it.

You could get a HID conversion for the hi-beam also, they just wouldn't be in a projector. It all just a matter of how much money do you wanna spend. In my understanding you would just have to buy 2 HID conversion kits. One for a 9005 bulb (high beams) and another for a 9006 bulb (low beams)

I have those headlights but took them off. Heres my current ones:

I take road visibility over looks anyday now.
The corners are mismatched because they belong to the projectors your about to buy ;D I never installed the right ones which are in my closet.

I believe smoking the ones i have would look better:

nope :( Within the next month or two i should, confusing though eh? IMO anybody that puts HIDs in a non-projector housing is stupid, it throws light all over hell and makes it horrible for oncoming drivers i dont care how well you aim them. Its the design of halogen housings, the bulbs create the 'cutoff' not the housing. I'm sure you have all seen the classic garage door pic of HIDs in projector housings that have razor sharp cutoff, that is the ONLY way HIDs are supposed to be used. I get all worked up on this subject because i hate getting blasted with headlights at midnight, its like and instant headache and a huge safety concern.

Ive read that you arnt suppose to put HIDs in the projector housings as well...

Is there a reason for this???

I really am debating buying those headlights.... but I want to make sure I am not stuck with some ugly projectors first lol...

PS: I LOVED my Integra for this...

I dont know of any reason that you wouldnt use a projector for HIDs, aiming would suck but when doesnt aiming suck?
http://www.intellexual.net/hid.html
that link tells alot about HIDs and has good info, the GS300 pics show why you DONT put HIDs into halogen housings. Although i think there is a special type of HID bulb that has some 'extra' cutoff or something. I have researched this quite a bit and from what i can tell, the best way is to buy quality(phillips GE) equipment and use projector housings. Retrofitting is probably the best way to know you have properly functioning HIDs that are legal(or at least you wont get pulled over for it, because they wont be able to tell). http://www.corral.net/forums/showthread.php?t=809200 I dont know how many of you have seen the guy that retrofitted HIDs in his fox but this is what i want to do but with 2 seperate projectors for HI/Low beams. I think his looks amazing, cost is the only factor for me.

those dont look half bad, i like that fox retro fit i was debating doing that when i was going to get hids. anyone try a sn95...the fox's headlight housings are quite a bit larger.
