Well today i drove 2 hours to Tampa to pick up my "new" 1997 Mercury Sable GS Wagon (i hate saying that).

Grandmother moved closer to my Aunt and Uncle so she had no more need for the car and she gave it to me.

after driving 2 hours home, I noticed quite a large puddle underneath, Red and Sweet smelling. Auto Tranny fluid... great.
seems to be coming from the Bellhousing area.

my very generous Grandmother and I.

^ HAHAHAHAAH thats too funny..

yea... those year trannys are known to have problems and be crap.. hopefully its something stupid... good luck with it

i have a 97 Taurus GL sedan.. real clean too I might add. one of the cleanest ive ever seen anyways. 120k on the tranny and no issues, which is hit or miss on these cars with the trannys.

well, found some info on the transmission.

the Front seals leak when they begin to overheat, and either dont leak or leak very little when they are cool.

this would explain why it has only leaked when i drove 116 miles from Tampa to Orlando and not when i ran errands today while in Tampa.

so i either need to drive small distances or get a transmission cooler, or both.

i want to put as little money into this car as possible, so i'll see how the leak looks after driving the 5 miles to work tomorrow

Congrats!

Sell it and get another moosetang! (But you said that lol)

I'm pretty sure you'll be able to get some decent coin for it, even with the leak.

does it have the Vulcan or duratec motor? We have the Duratec 4-valve in ours. Literally the only stock front wheel drive car that I've driven that can just sit there and roast the tires LOL

Glad you finally got it man! It probably feels nice having a car to drive that is yours.

Looking forward to seeing how much you get for it!

Brett, it is the Vulcan. I wish it was the Duratec, but beggers can't be choosers. The Vulcan is reliable and not supposed to be fast.

And thanks guys. I hope it's gone very soon lol
well at least you have more horsepower than the v6.... lol :p

Im pretty sure the vulcans are 145hp in 97 and the 98 mustangs are 150hp not a big difference but it still counts lol
