My car made me smile last night

So I've hated my ar with a passion for the last 6 months. Creaks, rattles, detteriorating ride quality, CEL lights, a vibration that rattles my shifter out of gear above 95 mph (lol yea yea, screw you) and general maintenance on a 165k mile car is exhausting. Either way I have to drive this POS every day, rain, snow sleet or shine and it sucks donkey nuts. Anyway, last night was dinner night at the rents house and my fiance met me there, which means after dinner, I take the long way home, rag on the car and hope it breaks lol. I'm about a mile from my house when I come up to a redlight. the car in front of me is a Cobalt SS, with what looks like a straightpipe tip comming out the back and big STAGE 2 emblem on the back. After trying to find breaks in traffic we finaaly make a U-turn onto the desolate :angel4: opposite side of the highway. We cant do a dig so I'm forced to humor his ricer ways and do a roll.
First race
Me in 2nd gear about 3200 RPM's, Him unknown
My car goes completely sideways, but I pedal and hook, he spins too and is at the back of my door supercharger is Fing loud, but I pull spin 3rd and shut it down at the the top of 4th @ maybe 100 with me about 3-4 cars ahead.
Second race
He says he spun too much and asks me to please do a 55mph roll. I say ok I dont give a fak.
55mph I'm about 3k rpm in 3rd, him unknown.
I hit it, car kicks the tail out slightly, I keep my foot on the pedal and car regains traction in an instant. I roll up my windows this time becasue his "charger" hurts my ears. I bring it to the top of fourth (powershifting @ 5500k rpms) and same result.
I really thought that the stage 2(whatever that means lol) cobalts had a bit of balls but I guess not. It brought a smile to my face because I really hate my car and I thought that maybe the car was on its last leg but she held her own. I thought it was funny becasue after we had raced, he asks "Man! what do you have done to that thing?!" I literally laughed and said 03 GT engine and 4.10 gears which is utterly true, he said "thats BS!" rolled up his window and raced off.
So for a measly, 03 motor with over 120k miles, a whining 4.10 rear (w/out DR's and 35 degrees outside) and a catted x-pipe, I guess I did rather well.

I would love to run into one of the 09's (with the turbo) to see if they can hang better.

i love when people see a 2v car, especially pre 99 cars, and think that they are gonna humiliate you, and then when you win they swear its its a fully built race car. Ive taken out c5 vettes with my 03gt that was nothin but bolt ons and gears. 2v all the way (and if you ever have to work on a vw you may think otherwise lol my least favorite thing is to see a vw pull into the shop)

If it was actually a stage two supercharged Cobalt SS, he didn't know how to drive it. Those cars trap 105-106 (although with TERRIBLE ETs); most GTs like yours trap 101-103. In other words, that car is a good bit faster than yours from a roll. Either way, congrats on the kill.

And I wouldn't mess with the turbo Cobalts from a roll....they trap well over 110 with minor mods. From a dig, you shouldn't have a problem with either.

I trapped 104. I gave him every race that he wanted...he obvioulsy thought he knew where his powerband was and it wasnt enough. I was also fighting traction issues other than shifting into 4th. He is absolutely stage2, Ive talked to a few people around town about it.

Nice one John.

Makes ya feel kinda proud of the old bird huh?

Good storytelling skills too, I can relate to this as i always end up going off a roll in NYC. It's just more practical with less cops on the freeways/parkways and whatnot.
"setting up" with someone right around the perfect RPM in your power band and then mash the pedal is such a thrill lol. The anticipation is fun!

Yea she still is a little fun. Just hate the fact that I have let her get to the point where there are too many problems all at once.

There is a guy up here in Indiana that has a Colbalt SS turbo. He runs 8.8@81mph at the local 1/8 mile track. He talks smack big time. I raced in my stock 01 Bullitt with a tune and beat him everytime. Its all about driving when it comes to stop light racing. We raced from a roll and I still beat him. My Bullitt is kinda a freak though. Cobalt turbo SS aren't really nuttin special. The supercharged SS's are slower then turbo models, even modified. Don't doubt American Muscle. Good kill though.

Can I ask why you have such extreme traction issues? lol...my car traps 121 and I dont have issues like you seem to have.

Good kill none the less.

Im gunna say the 35 degree temps outside, and 4.10s had to do with that there problem
