Hey everyone,
I'm a proud new owner of an SN95 and have been reading your forums for about a week now. I've already gotten a lot of great info and ideas for fixing up my ride. I've been wanting a Mustang for almost 15 years. and finally the right deal came along at the right time.
Its a Red '94 GT Vert with a 5-Spd. Here's what it looks like now, as I got it just a week ago.

Thanks for the help so far, I hope to contribute any knowledge I can.

Let me know what you think!

Not offended at all. I need to build some funds first but I planned on a paint job from the get-go. I was actually telling a friend of mine that i bought it and when he asked "what color?" I said "well, its kinda pink."

Plan on doing perf mods first, so I can smoke the unsuspecting ;)

Speaking of, I have read numerous posts and I am still confused on the e7 vs gt40 vs gt40p intake deal.
I have a 98 mounty 5.0 and I'd be interested in a swap if it would work and be worthwhile.

Thanks for the welcome!

Welcome to the site!

Glad you finally found what you were looking for. Any plans for it?

I've got the 2.73 gears now so I'll def be swapping them out for 3.73 and as I said above, interested in the gt40/p intake since i already have a 5.0 mounty as a donor but i'm a little confused on the compatability still..

As far as appearance, I'm just doing lights for now. The stock lights were gross, clouded yellow and cracked. The tails have diff color trims and are a lil cloudy.
So, I already ordered cobra headlights and clear corners w/amber markers. I initially wanted to swap for 96-98 tails (actually i'd love a set of the 96-98 exports though it doesn't seem like that's gonna happen), but the horizontals are slowly growing on me. I like that they say, "i've got a 5.0" and if I can clean up the ones I've got to save a few bucks that'll be sweet.

Thanks!

Nice ride! Sounds like you got some nice plans for it, be sure to make a build thread too. You could make a thread in the 94-95 5.0 section about the 5.0 mountaineer swap and intake compatibility. I would keep the horizontals, stay true to the 5.0s! The rear end looks wider with the horizontals anyways lol. Gears will definitely help, the stock 2.73s are terrible. I myself can't wait to swap some 4.10s in lol. How much mileage?

Thanks. Its got 136K mi on it and I am technically the 2nd owner. The guy that sold it to me would've been the 2nd but never registered it. He more or less was a dealer.
I wanna get it on the road but I think I'm going to wait til Spring. It'll be an antique then so registration, taxes, and hopefully insurance will be significantly less.
I wont get much driving in before the winter anyways and I can put the dough I save into fixing it up.

If you already have a full mountaineer 5.0, don't bother taking it apart. Just put the whole engine in. Although a cam swap would be a good idea before you drop it in.

I could talk for days, about the advantages or dropping the whole engine in with a cam... But my fingers won't type that long.

If i recall, the explorer/mounty 5.0 is rated the same as the mustang at 215hp. Wouldn't the performance be about the same doing a straight swap?
I assumed there would have to be something better about the mustang engine that it gets the same hp without the gt40 intake, right?

On either engine, with the 140k or 160k miles, I'd prob be tearing the whole thing down (cleaning, gaskets, etc) before putting any NEW parts in. Thoughts?

Is there anywhere you would recommend looking for more info on this type of engine swap and the benefits?

Thanks again.

If you have the mountaineer already take the heads and intake off bolt onto yours. You will reuse the factory 5.0 throttle body elbow. And your tb etc. But remember the mountaineer intake is setup for a 70mm tb from the factory. So If you want to get the most out of it get you a 70mm elbow and tb.....which I happen to be selling haha not tryin to get you to buy mine just letting you know. And you will see a big improvement in performance from the weekend swap.

Brought to you from a a land far far far very far veryy very far away

Or do as addermk2 said. Instead of doin the factory cam go ahead and check out corral or the for sale stuff here and pick up a cam for a good price

Wow, thanks everyone for the wealth of info!

It looks like from what i've read that the explorer/mounty manifolds heads are better than mustang, but the mustang cam/valve springs are better than explorer.
So putting the mustang cam/springs on the explorer or putting explorer heads and manifold on the mustang should yield the same end result of about 15-30hp gains.
If so then I see that first option would prob be the easier route and doing a cam upgrade in the process would give me even more power over the 15-30hp with any of the stock parts bolted on.

Correct?

Sorry if I'm repeating anything but I like to have a complete understanding of anything before diving in.

This is my first "for fun" engine work. I've replaced my timing chains on my 4.6 but that's about the furthest i've gone. I'm still trying to get a hang on what each performance part does and why it gives more power.

I greatly appreciate all of the info you've given to me already!

Thanks for the suggestion. Since reading your post two peole I know have referred me to the same company.

Also, would someone vith a vert be able to show me what its supposed to look like behind the backseat and in the trunk. Something is weird with mine I think. seems like something is missing, misaligned, broken. thanks

How about a pic of the area you think is weird - that would help!
