ok soo i have a 96 gt moonlight blue fully loaded mintt with 95k but may need a new rod bearing in the near future (im a mechanic so it wont be too bad for me)...it has bbk CAI, msd coilpacks and wires, magnapack catback, Hurst short throw, sct tuner (may keep), sequential tails, cobra headlights, 01 cobra wheels, cobra white gauges, and eibach sportlines...a buddy of mine wants to buy it from me for 4500 and i found a white 96 cobra in my town for $6900 with 69k all stock...do i sell my car and buy the cobra or keep my car and slowly keep modding it?...some of the parts from my car i will carry over to the cobra like eibachs, sct tuner, and if i can find a stock shifter ill keep the hurst.

cobra hands down lower mileage and it will probably take you more than the 2400 difference to make the GT as nice/fast as the cobra

I don't know jack about pretty muchly everything! I do know that mileage is very good on that Cobra! That's like 4900 miles a year!

Cobra hands down.. i just spent over 2500 dollars on my cobra engine rebuild, which will be done tomorrow. I spun a rod bearing as well but i decided this time to do all of the work myself.

Reason im sharing this with you is because your car is worth probably 4500 dollars. Then add at least $1000-$2000 to that for a rebuild which you will have to do soon to fix the rod bearing (machine shop, parts, miscellaneous things) and your up to the value of that cobra nearly. Plus, it only has 69k miles on it, so it should be in great condition and be a better platform to make power.

So, to me, Cobra hands down! hope it helps.

i would make sure it doesn't burn any oil first off. you may be able to fix it yourself but bad valve guides/seals seem to haunt the cobras. i just had my heads rebuilt with new valve guides and seals. taking this motor out to tear apart isn't the funnest thing in the world, either. also, see how the clutch feels and what ask what kind of condition it is in because the t45 is a b**** to take out. not impossible, but not very fun.

and also, 96 cobras had a cooling issue. something to do with the coolant reservoir or the condenser, i can't really remember which. so i would see if it has the "fix".

other then that, drive it and see how she feels.

beat the hell out of the transmission before you buy it. they suck to begin with, you dont want to buy one that has shot syncros or something that may break not long after you drive it away.

well i have been watching the thing for a while cuz he has had it for a while and he lives down the street from me and he stoped driving it a year or 2 ago and ive been wanting to ask if it was forsale but then it popped up on craigslist lol but his description of the car on CL makes him seem like he knows nothing about these cars

I'm not one to kiss the ground the 4V has driven on but since you don't have tons of money into your GT IE: Blower, engine etc i'd sell it and for 2500 more have a better building block. Plus the low miles on the Cobra are a huge plus!
