Need help really badly, track opens soon

just tonight i was heading home from work, i ran into a old friend so i stop and i was talking to him while the mustang was idling. As he left i jump him and toke off can of fast got it up to 4500rpm and then it die on me. I was what the fuck. At first i thought i ran out of oil, but i check that it was fine. Call a friend and he came over, he turn it over and it start and it idle for couple second(whiling jumping around between 1000-2000rpm) and it die again. I went under the gas tank to see if the fuel pump was out but i heard the zing noise(how every you want to explain the fuel pump sound) then i took the plug wiring off the coil and held it by the coil to see if that gets spark. I dint see any spark so i ask the kid to try it(i was pretty pissing right there) and the kid didn't see any either but he got his hand to close to the coil and got shock to shit. Could not figure anything out so we just tow it home. Does anyone have any ideas on what it could be? Would like to get it fix before this weekend because of drag strip opens then

hard to understand your description but does it run smooth when it does idle. you said it jumps but does it seem to misfire or n e thing?

dont noice if it was misfiring or anything but i was not really paying any attention either. I dont see any spark when i was testing the coil but my friend got shock from it.

did it die while you were shifting or as you were accelerating?

it turn out that 2 wires that connect to your coil were undone, connect them up and it start right up like a champ. I was going ape-nut that night, and i was running all of the bad things that could of happen. should of look at some things next time. but thanks for the help mich_666
