or the previous owner blew the 8.8in and swapped in a 7.5in rear, but i doubt that because they would of had to change the housing and everything which would be more expensive than just replacing the 8.8

change the housing? all you do is put the entire rear into the car. much easier than rebuilding the 8.8 already suppose to be in the car, and much cheaper than buying a new 8.8

I have a complete 8.8 rear from a 95 GT if you're interested.. I can't remember what factory gears it has..
Brake rotors, calipers... everything.. PM me if you're interested.

i heard that they are interchangable and so are the bearing and seals too

If you want info on the IRS swap, talk to scareface. He has done it a few times. From what I gather talking to him about it, it is alot more than just a bolt in operation.

Probably just better off swaping out for a complete 8.8.

The stock 8.8 axles and gt brakes are the same in the 7.5 rears. I would then assume that the
outer axle bearings and axle seals would be the same as well

Depending on the plans for your car you can build a pretty strong rear end for not too much money. I picked up an almost new 03 Cobra diff for like $150, new Moser 31 spline axles for around $220 and my gears were $40. Then just find someone to hook you up with an install.

well today me and my dad were going to finish chagning my axles since one was bent...
and another problem came along

we needed to get the pinion shaft out so wecould push the axles into the differential to remove the "C" clamps and couldnt get the pinion shaft out...we were lost for a good 15 minutes until we realized the pinion shaft bolt broke off which is very common and a huge pain in the a**

the only way to get it off while the differential is under the car is with a kit like this and you can take the whole rear down to work on this without removing the axles so we were screwed...

this is the kit you will need if this ever happens to you, i got mine from matco tools
http://www.etoolcart.com/fabbri-differential-pinion-shaft-lock-bolt-extractor-kit.aspx

so my dad called up his buddy the drives a matco tool truck, he travels all over maryland and we were fortunate enough that he was about 20 minutes from my house when we called, so the matco driver came all the way to my house for a personal delivery since we couldnt go to him because my car was in pieces lol, so that was a huge help...

pinionshaftbolt.jpg

after we got the tool, the bolt came out in a matter of 5 minutes lol, sooooooo easy with the tool
then we started on the assembly of the new axles/bearings/seals and all that was a cake walk

then we knew we needed a new bolt so we had to get a friend to lend us their car so we could go to plaza ford and get a new pinion shaft bolt and they had 3 in stock...woohoo, so we get there and paid 3.18 for a new bolt and finished up the job w. ease

i was going to take pictures of this whole process and what we did and make a "how to" but had no time because i had to be at work at 3 lol so i didnt get a chance to take pictures

but my rear is back together and no more squeaking while i dirve and no more wheel wobble its perfect lol

we were in such a hurry but when we got to ford they had a GT500KR SUPER SNAKE so i had to take a few quick shots lol

im just happy its all over and it works good now minus the fact its a 7.5" rear w. the t-loc cause it doesnt have clutches in it hahaha
but ill do all that another time
