make sure you use new gaskets. dot to dot is ok next best thing is to get it degree. make sure you use rtv on the corners. you could plug all your vacuum ports except for you fuel pressure regulator. and see if it helps. did you try carb cleaner to find vac leaks. when you get it back together. clean your iac with carb cleaner. set your tps and reset your base idle.

MAF Sensor is bad same thing happened to me. Get a scanner and test for codes mine had both fuel and spark. if i tried to start it i had to put the pettle all the way down just to get it to start then when i let off it would just die. Hopefully it helps.

got the motor back together last night and started it this morning and it will idle but its high 1000 to 1500. but ther motro doesent shake as bad any more. i know i have an exhaust leak at the header and i was driving up and down my drive way and now it sounds like a rod nocking its pretty loud. i tightened up the header bolts found 1 pretty loose and the sound didnt change. i hope its just a blown gaskit and not the rod nocking it coming from the drivers side and thats where the leak was at. there was always and exhaust lea since i bought the car but this sound is different and louder.

as for my maf its a abaco dx97 doesen't mean it not bad but after i put the fuel pump in the begining the car ran perfect it seems to be one thing after another with this car.

your car will not idle perfect till you get a tune. and the abaco dbx maf work best with a tune.if it stay on and runs you prob just need a tune.

there is a adjustment screw on the throttle body next to the iac i set that to 1 and a half turns out but i didn't mess with the Allen stop screw. and i tried to set my tps but wouldn't go below 1.07 volts, but I'm not real sure what to set my multimeter on. some said i needed to en logate the holes to get it to go lower but when i tried to drill it the metal sleeves in the holes just spun with the drill. i have cleaned the tps and maf with carb cleaner and maf cleaner.
wish i would have check on here be for i left home cause i wont be able to work on it again until Friday.

does anybody know where i can get a good tune that wont cost me an arm and an leg in Missouri?

You need more than just a tune. You need to bring your car to some who has a clue. You have been given some prety solid advise in this thread, yet you seem to be ignoring all of it.

Go find a mechanic, and pay him.

i have check and done almost every thing that has been suggested. i had the distributor checked its good, i have visually and fiscally checked the balencer no movement or rubber squeeze out i checked the cam timing, i have cleaned the maf, iac, and the throttle body multiple times.iv adjusted the tps, only thing i haven't done is reset the base idle. i may not be a master mechanic but that's why I'm posting on here so if you dont want to try and help me or give any suggestions don't post.
thanks

OK i ill take another look at the balancer and ill set the base idle using the link you posted.

when i installed the cam i had the heads off and i visually put it on top dead center and did dot to dot on the gears, and then when i took the the timing chain cover off to check the cam timing i used the balancer to get it on top dead center compression stroke and the the timing gears were dot to dot, so i would think that would rule out the balancer? but i will look at it again.
