Regarding locktite; many hard lessons learned at the track, seeing folks lose brake calipers and drivelines. Manufacturers use threadlock compounds on new, we should too. Good post Mustangshane.

Ya, sometimes the bolts get old, metal fatigues and wont stretch properly anymore. new bolts definitely help!

Last time the local tranny shop did work on my 95, I had the same problem with the driveshaft. Lost one bolt, two were super loose and one was barley loosened. Tightened them the best I could and took my time getting over there. Called them ahead of time and when I arrived they had 4 new bolts, some loctite, and an empty lift waiting on me.

I never used any thread lock on any of my driveshaft bolts or my transmission or bell housing bolts. Maybe you didn't tighten them enough?

I use never seize on my bell housing bolts, and a torque wrench on my drive shaft bolts. If they are torqued properly they don't need lock-tite.

I always red loc-tite the driveshaft bolts. It's just generally a good idea. Despite proper torque spec, they can still vibrate themselves loose.

Paul, I am going to strongly disagree with you on that. But if you feel you must use lock-tite on your drive shaft bolts you should use blue, not red.

Why blue over red?

I don't think I even have any blue in the garage, but I know for sure I have at least two tubes of red. :tongue3:

Red is permanant thread locker. You are supposed to use a torch to heat up and melt the adhesive. Blue is temporary and will come loose with some extra ooomf. NEVER EVER use green, that is block press and is used in permanat situations that are not supposed to be taken apart without a press. I have used this only on trans gears in Eaton transmissions for the Mack Mid-Liner. I don't remember the model of the trans.

Also just for your info Lock-Tite has a shelf life. There should be a expiration date on the bottle.

Hmm, I don't take my driveshafts on/off too often, and it comes off fine with the right size wrench :)tongue3:) so I guess I'm not too worried about it.

Paul.
