autometer cobalt monster tach with shift light
autometer oil pressure and water temp. guages

Ok with that being said, I want a nitrous engine....I have been in a mildly built 306 with nitrous and I have been sold ever since I rode in it.... Looking for a street car and it will only go to the track occasionaly....I want something I can beat on and not have to worry about breaking....looking for near 450hsp on the juice....11's at the track....
First mods i was looking into, Tremec TKO 600, new driveshaft, Auburn Diff, 31 spline axles, MSD distributor, Nitrous system, cam, 255 pump.....I think thats it but i dont have my list handy....

Questions: For the nitrous system, should i go with a simple tried and true Wet shot or their was a NOS plate system that attaches to the Intake mani for a direct shot? Next, What type of tuner do I need to get, can I just go with a MSD retard box and retard for when I spray or does SCT make a handheld tuner that I can store tunes? The car has the e-303 cam, is their a better cam for a nitrous appliction (of course I want the lumpy idle but above all I want performance, if the quietest cam gets me the most power then I will go that route)? I know the stock 5.0 block handles 450-500 an then It cracks, can I just put a girdle on it to help with the strength?

Swiss cheese my plan and help me go about this build properly!!!

Also, next winter (08-09) im going to be going Dart block, strocker, and AFR heads....but until then this will be sufficent, please keep this end result in your decision making process.

if you want nitrous then i would go with the edelbrock nitrous kit that is a set-up for your intake, ive heard a lot of good thing about it and how easy it is to install

nitrous is an abusive thing you can do to your motor. make sure the TUNE IS RIGHT> I'd get a flip siwtch dyno tune so they can tune you for your street use and then you flip the switch to your your squeeze. make sure the whole bottom end is forged or you'll be getting new pistons and rods on the monthly if you spray it enough. I have a 306 I spray the $hit out of and I still haven't broken it yet. I had the trick flow kit that is adjustable from 50 to 200. I'm switching to a dynotune nitrous kit now. But I've been spraying hard twice a month for a year now and she stillruns like a top. It's not my daily but it could be.

Ok well I guess thats my innital question? How much can this block handle? 100 shot? 150 shot? Dont get me wrong, im not skimping out on anything when it comes to safety(Buying Wideband, Nitro Pres gauge, Window Switch, purge, Fuel Pump)....Is their a specific weak link in the engine? Rings? Pistons? To high of compression? I know with some Alum heads this hing will ht hard on the spray....

Could I just pull the engine and put a Girdle and some rings in it and call it a day? Its kind of a hold over motor but I would still like to race it when I want....maybe that means going with a 100 shot instead of 150???

Actually I didnt think it mattered but I have a buddy that owes me quite a bit of money (hes the reason I got into SBF) and he has a 306 DSS block with a forged bottom end, I know he would straight up give it to me (he owes me a lot and dont ask why, very long story)...its just sitting in his garage since he went with a built bottom end for a turbo....drop that In????

Or go newer? Was looking at the pro bullet 306 (go with flat top or the max quench, i dont understand how those will effect when spraying)
http://www.dssracing.com/newprobullet.htm

Thanks for the relys so far..I will look into the edelbrock plate system.....what else do you guys think about the plan or other avenues I should approach????

anything else guys? I know their are more guys running spray on their 5.0's
I am spraying a 200 shot on my stock block but now all the time. With my set up I'm right around 330 flywheelhp and with the squueze about 500 even. so my block takes that abuse.

well i was just told the car as it sits with the mods above laid down 301 on the dyno....impressed me, any ways a buddy of mine told me the same thing, put a 200 on it....

I think im loking into the NOS plate system (just because they have a specifc plate for my IM), 150 shot....
Window switch
Bottle warmer
MSD Distibutor
MSD 6AL
255 Fuel Pump
Smog pump elim
Anderson PMS
Some type of a nitrous cam(dont know the specs but it has a nasty idle, friend is giving it to me from his old Nitrous motor)
Then these super cool tuner gages: Wideband, oil psi, water temp, Fuel pres, and Nitrous pres....

then have brandon haywood tune it (some of the NC guys may know him)....anything else to add?

Should be good for 450ish...
