So me and my dad just purchased a 1995 Mustang GT from a guy he works with's son. My dad's pretty good friends with them and knew about the car when the son first purchased it. My dad tried to buy a fox body off of them awhile back but couldn't come up with the money. His son sold us this one for $4000. It had been wrecked but they told us that they had the money spent and had it fixed right. The previous owners (other than the guy's son) had done some work on the car. It has a 4.10 rearend and diffrent injectors (24lbs I think. They're blue right?). We're not sure what else its had done or if it has had anything else done. The rear tires are bald and the front aren't too much better so we've got to get new tires ASAP. We've been having a problem with the idle. It's really hard to keep the car running when it's stopped for more than a few seconds. It does the surging thing too. I read the sticky above and plan on trying that when we get some time, but I was wondering what else it could be? Its going to be a week or so before I can really work on the car and I'd like to have a gameplan before tearing into it.

Thanks

First I would really do the sticky thread, because things like the MAF the Idle air control valve can cause the surgeing idle so really inspect them closely, and give em a good cleaning. I know that our 94 95 computers are pretty dumb and don't take very well to modifications sometimes, and that some people have had to get a tune to really fix the issue, but do the quick checks first.

Congrats on getting the car. :dancing6:

Alrighty. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't other little things to check while I was there.

The car is def not the best thing out there. After I sell my Bronco, I should have enough money to get the little things fixed and get it repainted... maybe even get a body kit.

I'm really excited about this car. I forgot to mention it also has a MSD cap and some larger Ford Racing Wires... dunno if that'll help figure out what to do or not, but I suppose it doesnt hurt to mention.

In addition, you might want to do a cap, rotor, and plug change. I would also check the wires using an ohm meter to see if they are consistant w/ each other and if not replace those as well.

My car was doing that right at 2 years ago. I did a full tune-up, still acting up! I then had the MAF looked @. It was that!! It ran like it should! Congrats on getting your car, too! Kind of forgot that!

i agree with the above post its not at all uncommon for these cars to act this way :wall: however if your car is basically stock there is no need for the 24lb injectors and i dont think they will work well with a stock maf it has to be calibrated for the injectors so if u cant fix it with the typical solutions u may consider this.

Something else you may want to check, look for vacuum leaks. My 95 GT had a vacuum leak on the D/S on the backside of the intake manifold that caused it to surge and nearly shut off sometimes. It cost me $1.00 to fix, it might be worth a shot. If it is though, you'll hear a sucking sound coming from the engine bay.
