Hey all,

So we have a motor going in. Let me just list the stats

Built 306
8.5:1 compression
Ported AFR 195 heads, Anderson b41 cam
Ported upper lower Cobra intake, 70mm TB,
Pro-M MAF 42lb injectors
A1000 fuel pump sumped tank etc.

Its an s995 setup.

Now I haven't built a supercharged 5.0 since about the mid 90's as I got sidetracked with turbo setups and v6's for awhile. This SC kit is kind of funky in that the TB is so close to the discharge of the SC....So an IC doesnt seem doable. Will more then likely add a meth kit later on so I can run a bit more boost.

So my main question is tuning and injector sizing. Back in the day I used the FMU's to a relative success with like a 30 lb injector. Relative in that they worked fine and I didnt blow anything up. Then the super FMU's to fine tune a bit. But now much of that can be done via tuning. I plan on running a moates QH.

Soo Are 42's enough without an fmu or do I need to go with a 60lb injector or so? Like I said it;s been awhile and I dont know what to expect power wise. Just keep in mind I already have the 42's and matching MAF..Not that I wont upgrade. But for those of you running sim setups..What do you think?

think you'll be OK. My buddy's fox ran a similar combo with the 42s, he put a little over 500 to the tires at aout 12psi with an s-trim. No IC or meth. Unless you have an aftermarket block, it's really only good for about 500 at the flywheel.

What HP are you shooting for? What blower are you using?

Its an sn95 strim kit. No HP goal really. I just had the stuff lying around and came across this vortech kit at a smoking deal. Can you find out what pulley size your buddy was running? Im not looking to make big numbers. Its a stock prepped block with good internals. The guy I got the kit with gave m ea few different pulleys.

its a stick car and its currently running and already put together but not tuned yet. Its an 80mm pro M calibrated for 42lb injectors. I have several different cars so if I have another post lurking around it isnt this car. Im doing a budget 94 vert build also sn95 wise..Which Ill be posting a question about shortly!

Pro-M 80mm meter is perfectly fine and what I would use and have used myself.

I am curious why you went with such a large head for a small block 306? The new 195's are designed for stroker motors and flow just as well as the original AFR 205's. The 195's have a 2.05 intake valve, did you mean you did a 185 head?

The cobra intake, even ported is restrictive compared to somethink like a Holley Systemax 2 or an Edelbrock Performer RPM/RPM2.

As far as fuel is concerned it is gonna be test & tune. Most likely you'll be just fine but a lot of times I recommend people go with 60's and just pull back the fuel pressure. Do the 42's and look at the duty cycle and make sure they're not maxed out with a good A/F.

I basically had all this stuff lying around except for the cobra intake which I scored off a friend of mine. It ha dbene cut up ported and rewelded together. No idea what it flows but its a very clean job. Generally I do two kinds of builds. Either all out, or things I can piece together for cheap. In total this whole engine out of pocket from fuel system to vortech is costing me $3,000 which for what it is is cheap! And for some reason I get great joy at that! That's including cost of traded items as well. The cobra intake i know will be a semi restriction but at this point I dont care so much. Maybe Ill swap it out later and put a fox intake on along with an IC. But for now its going to at least stay like it is. My other project sn95 is my ultra budget car. Ill probably post more on that after its apart. Just a basic cobra setup with a cam and full exhaust...all at a great deal. When al is said and done with body modifications, suspension, interior, radio, fuel exhaust and engine stuff...Ill be in it for under $3500..But Im thinking the stock auto wont last and that may just blow my budget! Its semi ratty paint wise but what do you expect for 1500!

Anyways I see you have a GS. I own a few tbird SC's. Ones 2.2 AR powered and the other was just recently built up. 4.3 solid roller turbo. Its currently making over 800rwhp however the factory EEC with Moates QH couldnt handle the airflow no matter how we sliced and diced it so a megasquirt III is going in. Some things in the GUR file (min and max) wernt able to be switched so I was screwed..Not much support for the 94/95 SC EEC. Cant wait till thats back and running. Yah love it when my v6 smokes any v8 car I got!

With your stock block theres no need for 60s as the 42s weill handle enough power to put you in block splitting territory. If you want to get technical and do it right figure it out here ( http://www.rceng.com/technical.aspx )
This way theres no guess work.

I have 42lb Ford Motorsports injectors and they work great for over 500crank hp .. I have the same setup your building besides smaller heads .. I love my car pulls like a beast and drives stock with Ice cold A/C ..

P.S I have some good injectors and mass air for sale if needed

50lb msd injectors and prom 92mm mass air for 50lb injectors ..make you a smoking deal

If you have any more questions just ask i have dealt with all the problems you will come a cross im sure ..

Well It seems this project has changed a bit. The motor is now in an 87 fox cougar with a custom liquid to air spearco intake and using all fox bracketry. NOWWW I have what I consider a mild motor in my vert sn95. Its a stock block 302, stock compression, fully ported gt40 heads w 1.7 rockers, the same ported and cut up cobra intake, 70mm tb, comp nitrous cam ( I need to find specs)24lb injectors 255lph pump and just converted to 5 speed.

Now I want to put an s trim on this combo with an anderson power pipe(not changing cam). Im figuring I will need an injector upgrade and that 42's should do the trick. What size pulley should I use?. Also I do have a Snow Stage III MPG+ meth kit from my tbird I can use. Worth it? Perhaps being its a stock block I should pulley accordingly and not need teh meth.

Probably tune using my moates QH allthough I do have teh adjustable vortech FMU I can use. Any reccomendations are welcome. Not really a crazy combo but I threw it together from soem more spare parts

Thanks!

The stock cam is not a bad choice for a blown combo anyway. Use the #42's and ditch the FMU. The stock blower pulley should be fine.

Oh I guess I forgot to mention I currently ave a comp nitrous cam in there. I need to find the specs. When I put the engine together I also used ARP head studs as I was going to run a 75-100 shot. Probably not ideal but I am not taking the cam out at this point
