I just recently picked up an '01 V6. This is my first time owning a V6, ive had a lot of Mustangs but never a sixxer. Anyways, im not sure yet on what mods will make the car more fun to drive. But i will search this section since im usually over in the V8 section, gotta get familiar around here. Aside from that, my main question is, what can be done to the V6 to make it sound less like a V6? The car has JBA headers, custom made straight pipes w/ cats and flowmasters. The car still has all four cats but with straight pipes. Custom made, not an x or h pipe but straight. Never seen anything set up like that before. Dont know if thats why it sounds different but wanted to get some input.

Take a look at my v6 build thread in my sig :p As for the sound not sure... I don't think mine sounds like a typical v6 mustang. I'll try to post a video over xmas. But i think getting rid of the straight pipe might help...

As for helping the v6 out i will recommend 373 gears. It will give you the best improvement as an affordable upgrade.

i have a sixxer as well. all i'm doing is cosmetic stuff and exhaust as of now. definitely get gears. 4.10's for an auto and 3.73's for a manual. i might do a 4.2 swap later on like orange here did, and procharge/kenne bell/turbo it. and as far as the exhaust note goes, you won't be able to get a great tone out of it. straight pipes are probably gonna do you just fine, especially compared to the stock v6 exhaust.

yea im pretty sure it sounds a little better than the stock V6 set up. I'll keep researching see what else i come up with. As far as the gears go, is it pretty much the same deal as for the GT's. For my 96 i bought the Ford racing 4.10's and had em installed for around 200. But these have different size rears?

stock they're 7.5" but you could get a rear end off a gt on CL for pretty cheap and just bolt it up. might find one with better gears in it too

Lol, are the headers long tubes or shorty's?

I reccomend getting an H, maybe pop one cat out on each side, and putting on some nice mufflers. Mac's, flow 40's, something along those lines. Not super loud.

That's when these cars start sounding bad is when they are too loud.

If you want me to post my exhaust I can, you'll poop a bit ;p (I should make a video of it with the dumps, its sooo loud)

I also reccomend gears.

I upgraded my rear end to an 8.8 from a fox body.

His has to be from a new edge to look right. different length axles and tubes.

I had the same issue lol. and for some reason they always want more for them ;p

However, I got mine for $75 because it has a bent axle tube. Just not done building it yet.

G36, I picked it up with jba shorty headers and Flowmaster 40's just wasnt sold on the straight pipe set up he had built after the cats. If u post your exhaust set up that'll work. Just looking for ideas. Im already looking for an 8.8 with gears installed, preferably 4.10's. Any sound clips would really help too, thanks!

Here's a rolling one.

I think the biggest thing for mine is the displacement. Obviously the cam is what gives it that 351w sounding idle. Buuut, you can get it fairly deep I do believe

I know right, sounds wicked. So im thinking i will install an x or h pipe and see if there's a difference. Then take it from there.

Do an H. Dropping the cats is what made mine a lot deeper. Not sure if the long tubes made the big difference or not in sound, since I got rid of the cats at the same time.

I did lose a good deal of bottom end from the LT's.

I'd punch out or just cut out at least one set of cats. Put an H on it. And then see how she sounds :D

Orange, yours may sound a hair different because of the blower ha
