New wheel color

Well came out to my car this morning and the tire was completely flat, filled it up went to work and it held air since the morning. After work I leak tested it and found out one of my hypercoated saleens is cracked :crybaby2: Well instead of spending the money for a new one, I have two of the same but in chrome. So, to make them match, I'm going to paint them and paint them myself, by the way... with a rattle can. So need opinions on colors. I'm siding with black which ive done before, but looking for any suggestions and pictures of any other colors.

Black wheels look good on white cars if you have other black accents: smoked headlights, smoked tailights, window tint...
then it looks good.. If you didn't have any of that, then traditional silver looks pretty sweet.

have the smoked hl's and tails and tint will come soon, just wondering if anyone has any original ideas because the white with black wheels has been done many times by me and many many others

I am also going to look into painting the wheels i just got they were originally chrome also.

I say just JB Weld the crack in the rim and move on, unless it's on the face of the rim I guess.

if the wheel itself isnt holding air, then the crack is in the bead, and it is VERY DANGEROUS to jb weld or even spot weld a wheel at the bead. I've tried to use JB weld on a wheel bead as a temporary fix and even after waiting 3 days for the weld to solidify, it popped as soon as air was pumped into the tire.

and dont even think about taking it somewhere to have it welded, as its a huge insurance risk to be fixing wheels like that. 99.9% of shops wont fix a wheel like that for the simple fact that its very susceptible to breaking again, and could and would very likely be a culprit of a crash and then the shop becomes liable for it.

if the bead is broken on your wheel, buy a new one.

I say powdercoat those wheels white it will look perfect.

as for painting them, id paint them a gunmetal color. it will still be similar to the Hypercoated finish, although probably a tad darker. something along the lines of this

Yea Im siding with a gunmetal color also. I really cant stand the white on white look. For the record they are hypercoated faleens that I got for free. Reason I wont buy another is because its holiday season and the the new baby and I have two 18x9's that are chrome so no need to buy one new. The crack goes from the back inside part of the wheel and then past the bead. The leak was coming from both the bead and the lip in the backside of the wheel so no JB weld for me or no way to fix this. Ok so its decided, going a dark gunmetal and see how I am at painting chrome.

why is it dangerous to repair a wheel at the bead? I find it hard to believe there's no way to fix it but I'm no wheel expert.

im no expert here but im sure its because there is an enormous amount of stress on the wheels and tires. The reason the wheels/rims can take that stress is because its distributed through the continuous radius of the wheel once any stress hits that weak spot (the repaired) section it blows out the jb weld? I dont know....this explanation could possibly make no sense at all but i gave it a shot. :dontknow:

Btw i am almost positve i saw your car on 24 the other day. Last friday i think. or maybe 2 fridays ago. i was the v6 white sn95 next to you for most of the stop and go before the constant friendship light. Nice ride!!

car wheels are weight-bearing objects. Any kind of stress fracture or non-continuous run in the material that isnt secured by design, is susceptible to breaks, bends, warping, anything really. You are constantly putting stress on your wheels, both just by the weight of the car, and by them always moving. Even if the repaired spot is stronger than before it was broken, it will still be a focused area of stress on the wheel.
