Hi, I put an aftermarket stereo in my car last september. Until 3 weeks ago, everything was fine but i dont know why, a morning while i was on the highway all the speakers started to make a big whining sound.
Now it takes like 2 minutes to the speakers when i start the car to make the sound.
I thought it was the head unit so i bought a new one on the same model, rewired it all, changes the ground and still have the problem.
When the rear speakers are unplugged i don't have the problem so yesterday i replaced the rear speakers but again the trouble came back after like 5 minutes and there was a burnt smell.
Oh and i forgot to say when the car is off everything is fine even with rear speakers plugged.

Could it be car interference with rear speakers ? Its weird because because everything was fine before that morning... Any ideas ? Thanks.

*Car is a 1995 3.8 auto.
Don't hesitate to ask questions is you dont understand i know that my english isn't perfect.

well the engine and transmission set up are not nearly as important as what audio equpment WAS in the car, and now IS in the car. Be as complete and detailed as possible, what the equipment was, who put it in and how.....

by the way your english is just fine, dont'CHA know?!

Sorry it was my attempt at humor and the only canadian joke I know, other then curling jokes.......

Stock head unit and stock speakers were in the car. A friend of mine replaced the stock head unit with a cheap nextar stereo cd/mp3/usb/SD.

I guess he wired it right because everything was fine until like 3 weeks ago.

I had the stock Ford amp but no more use it as the nextar head unit has a built-in amplifier.

So i replaces the head unit with a new nextar (same model) but same problem.

Replaced the rear speakers with new Alpine 6x9 inches but still same problem.

We've tested the grounds with a multimeter and they're all good.

Right now i'm thinking of buying a new head unit (better quality like pioneer or kenwood) just to see if i still have the problem...

Thanks.

Sounds like you have alternator whine and that's the reason you don't hear it when the car is off.

You might also try replacing all the other grounds in the engine bay also......

lets start simple.. Do you know where the coil is on your engine? On the back of it there is a noise reducer that is easily broken. Start the car and have someone wiggle the wires going into it and see if the noise changes. IF that does nothing then like he said check the grounds by the battery. Maybe take them off, clean the metal under it and then put them back on.

Oh i forgot to say i now have the noise too when car is off.. ? Sometimes it's okay for 30 seconds or 2 minutes and then it starts again and never stops.

Also a couple of days before the whole thing gone crazy, i had noticed that between tracks there was a sound.

can you describe the noise? I thought it was alternator noise but if it does it with the motor off then it is not.

Can you get some pics of your mounting and wiring?

Im having this same problem w/ the car I just bought. Im using the pioneer head unit that was in my previous vehicle so I know thats not the problem. It picks up all the electrical noise from the car including: the alternator, turning on any accesory such as heat/air and even pressing the brake pedal I can hear a click and it does it w/ the car running or not. Car sounds like it has a whipple on it while your driving lol....any ideas? The stereo system appears to be all stock by the way.

Yes I did, used a wiring adapter that plugs in the factory harness so no wires are cut. The factory radio did the same thing but the factory cd player didnt work so I installed my own but I still have the buzzing noise. I hate to bypass the factory stuff b/c the mach system sounds good other than the low buzzing sound when the volume is low.

I used a harness adapter in mine also but chose to ground the head unit separately. I mated it to the chassis support bar that runs through the dash.

pioneer HU - try grounding the outer shield of the rca. Just disconnect the rca's, and when you put them back together insert a wire inbetween the outside connection and then ground that wire. With old pioneers if you hook up the rca's, and then run the cables even with the deck off there is a cap that charges up on the pre-out and when you sooner or later ground the rca's while you rund them you blow a pico-fuse in the deck.

fords have this when you install aftermarket decks most sn95 mustang have a stock amp being the one under the radio or the mach 460 amps the easy way to fix this is to remove the radio and bezel sitting in the drivers seat there is two radio plugs to the right in the dash unplug them and remove the stock amp then use the other plugs for your aftermarket radio it should be the two plug ford harness and you will have no more stock amp this will get rid of the sound.
