Just a thought, maybe someone will agree or not, I had the same issue when I picked up my current 94, it had been sitting a bit, not had much "good" maintenance done. Although the dizzy replacement and wires/plugs/coil etc helped, but didn't solve, I completely cleaned the MAF, it was filthy, cleaned the IAC, set the TPS, bumped timing up a bit and it eliminated the issue.

played with the timing a bit, a little bit past 10* I think. It's a pain to use a timing light from what me and a friend could tell,

Interesting. So long as the SPOUT was removed seeing the timing mark should be easy, unless the marks are coated in rust. If that's the case clean the surface with some emery paper and mark the timing lines with a white marker. The flat edge of the timing pointer is your reference edge. Here's a picture of mine
