Hmm now im wondering about my ?

Here's my old setup, had the passenger oil breather filter in, and I was running the hose from the side oiler filter neck to the air intake.

But now I have it capped off with the little nippled rubber caps to cap it off and run the same filter with the intake capped off? is that correct with no hose now I run a filter?

Do you still have the PCV valve in the back of the intake? If so, toss that breather in the trash and re-attach your hose.

I have not had a chance to mess with this since I brought it up. Was going to do it today but my usual digestive problems flaired up and now I am just hoping it calms down tomorrow. It occurred to me that a quick/easy way to check if I am getting un-metered air in through there would be just to slap a piece of tape over the breather hole and see if the idle changes as I am pretty sure its still the standard PCV valve back there. Is this a bad idea?

The ideal test would be to pull the PCV valve out of the hose and plug the hose that goes to the manifold.

I didn't get around to pulling out the pcv valve. Honestly I still am a little confused as what it would or would not do with out it and trust your not setting me up too grenade my motor but idunno... Its been raining and I have not been getting out at all so I finally was able to plug the breather hole and go for a ride. Idle was still high around 850-900 rpm and really didn't act any different.

What I did was installed a pcv grommet in each valve cover, used a plastic 5/8 barb elbow and inserted one end into the grommet of each cover. Then I connected a 5/8 hose to each elbow and ran them to a catch can with a breather on th top of the can. I plan to add a small 3/8 hose from the breather filter to the tip of the air cleaner as when I'm stopped at a light, there is a slight "smoke" coming from the breather and it creeps around the hood. It is normal to has this "smoke" so I would just like to suck it in to keep it from creeping out. Has worked great on my car and many many others I have built.

what would be the difference between a breather like that or one on the valve covers? I don't have any problem with smoking.

Again... When you put breathers on the valve covers (or even his setup) but leave the pcv valve in place... You create a unmetered air leak.

I would have thought then that plugging the whole would have resulted in a lower idle then? I didn't think the set up he described would be any different then mine netting un-metered air into the motor and was just wanting to make sure.

how much air are we talking here by leaving the PCV in place? is it only a problem with the idle or throughout the whole power band?

Its a very simple deal and cant understand why so many peeps have trouble with this. If you have the PCV valve then you dont run breathers. If you cap the pcv and oil fill vac line then you can run a breather setup. Cant mix and matchbit dont work.

just been trying to track down the source of my high idle and thought that if un-metered air was getting in that it could be the problem. Besides that I am still learning with motors, or trying too.
