I recently replaced both front and rear main seals on my mustang only to find out my oil pan gasket wanted to let me down too:'(. A buddy of mine said that I should just pay a shop to replace it because he did his and says it was a real pain in the ass. Well he did his with the car on jack stands, I have access to a lift. Is it as difficult of a job as he is making it sound?

You have to pull the motor or K member to pull the pan. I have heard of people just raising the motor and getting the gasket off and putting the new one on but Ive never done it myself. Pulling the motor isnt hard at all if you have any mechanical experience whatsoever.

I know I wouldn't have had enough room to scrape everything off correctly had the motor not been pulled.

Harbor fight has a beam that goes across the shock towers holds the engine in place.. Then you drop the k member..

I think I've seen something like this before. I want!

That's pretty cool, see if you can post it up for us. I would definitely like to add that to my collection :)

yep, use that tool. knock your spindles loose from the a arms and drop the k member. super easy. just support the k member with a jack while you undo the bolts. then just balance it as a budy lowers the jack

the problem with the motor in the car is getting a one piece gasket over the oil pump pickup

I jack the engine up, place 2x4's between the mounts and K-member, drop the pan onto the K-member and unbolt the oil pump pickup tube. Then slide the whole pan out to the rear.

Winner!

This is the best way that I have found, in the end though no matter what, the job is a pain in the fvckin ass.

Lucky me, I have only had to do it once on my car, and once on a customers car.
