Did a search and could only find how to drop an oil pan, jeez you guys are lazy. lol

I'm wanting to know oil pan suggestions. Found a crack in my stocker. Should i spring for the 180.00 canton or just get the 60.00 50resto special? Or do you guys have any other suggestions?

Yep, it's easier sometimes to just drop the k-member. I've done it a couple times.

Get the stocker... I replaced mine when I got the car (you could damn near see through it) and left the motor and k member in the car... the trick is to get an engine hoist and lift the motor about 6 inches so you can slide the oil pan in and out. Definitely get a good oil pan gasket (mine was the rubber real good one and didn't rip when I put the cam in the car).

You might look into a Cobra replacement pan and oil pickup. The Cobra pans usually have a baffle to help keep the oil around the oil pickup that the GT's don't have. Just a thought.

Now that I didn't know. Also look into a Mellings high volume oil pump... you can get it for just a few bucks more at Autozoo or Advance and it helps oil the motor quite a bit better. At least I noticed a difference.

I don't recommend high volume pumps in a stock-ish (or even most built) motors. They cost horsepower, can create too much pressure, and are unnecessary.

Never had a problem with too much pressure... it only bumped it 3-5 psi, but I noticed the motor ran smoother afterward... to each his own, but I'd prefer to lose 5 horse for the peace of mind and lack of lifter tick... I can make that up in 2 minutes anywhere else.

Do a search on The Corral about high volume pumps. For most applications, there are far more costs/potential risks than benefits. I've talked it over with several folks who are definitely "in the know" and I have to say I agree with them.

I've seen guys literally blow the oil filter off from too much pressure/volume. The OEM pressure/volume pumps are more than adequate to address any concerns with lifter tick and oiling.

I have heard from several different places that just the stock pump does a very efective job, and there is no need to have a high volume pump. I didnt know that it could cause too much pressure. Good info

Yep, my friend Trent literally blew his oil filter apart on his Turbostang a few years back. Luckily he shut the motor down before it pumped all of its oil all over the street - that would've been an expensive repair.

He replaced it with a stock replacement Melling pump and never had any problems again.

I gotcha... I understand what you're saying, but I can say I've never had the first problem and I've had it in the car for 3 years... Oil pressure has always been perfect. But like I said, I can see how it might be a problem.
