Oil pressure gauge install troubleshooting

So I am in the middle of wiring an Autometer short sweep electrical gauge for oil pressure. After connecting everything as the directions state, the gauge is still not reading when I start the car. I have the S terminal connected to the terminal on the sender, the ground terminal connected to a clean spot on the fender, and the I terminal spliced with the 12v switched source on the radio. I am thinking my problem is either with the sender itself or the 12v source. Where is a good 12v switched source for reference? Thanks guys!

yeah i plugged the radio in just to double check and it powers up. Can those aftermarket senders go bad or can they be shorted? I actually have a temp gauge and the oil gauge grounded together and the temp works fine so its puzzling :BangHead:

yes senders can go bad. 12v is good and ground is good= something else is bad and I am not that familiar with installing one. hopefully ryclef, paul, or one of the others steps in with good advice for you on trouble shooting.

So I figured everything out. Usually the sender is supposed to ground through the threads, but because I have a rubber oil hose instead of a metal one it wasnt grounding. I ran a ground wire and eyelet from the sender to a body ground and everything works perfectly. Just a heads up for anyone with the same situation.
