Well I got my car in July, and have loved it since then. However, it was purchased with around 139k on it, and i have around 142k now. not exactly being efficient..lol. Well in short I am just not sure of my options. I obviously want to keep the car as long as i can, but if i were to start doing basic bolt ons now and exhaust etc, would i have to rebuild the engine later on? Should i start saving up parts for a rebuild next summer? Just thinking out loud here.. :dontknow:

as long as you treat the car right, you can do as many bolt-ons as you want without worrying about the engine. if you bought a supercharger or turbo, that would be another story.

it is possible to supercharge or turbo a 140,000 mile engine, but have a spare engine ready. have a compression test done, it will tell you the condition of the engine. each engine is different, two engines of the same mileage will not always be able to withstand the same amount of power.

our engines can support around 350rwhp with stock internals on a good condition engine, the blocks themselves can support over 600hp

I'm running over 203k miles on my '98 V6. Aside from oil changes and brake pads, it's just about completely stock. Runs just about as good as new.

These engines are said to have very weak head gaskets from the factory, so even if yours aren't bad, it's a fairly good idea to get them changed anyway. It doesn't cost too much, and I've never heard of people having issues with these engines with good quality aftermarket head gaskets (like Fel-Pro).

I'd change mine, but I've got a low mileage 5.0L H.O. engine sitting in my garage next to my Mustang just waiting for the time to stuff it in.
