The previous owner of my car lost the keyless entry remote. Is there anything special about ordering a new one. Also what is the program procedure. I used to know it but I forgot. Something like put the key in, turn it to on twice, then tap the brake pedal 3 times? Can't remember exactly...

turn the key, pop your trunk, locate the anti-theft module next to it there is gonna be a grey plug, make a jumper wire, make contact with the grey plug when you hear the doors lock OR unlock hit the lock OR unlock button on the remote.

IIRC its been a while since i did it

Yeah I found this set of instructions:

To program (or reprogram) keyless entry remote transmitter into the remote keyless entry module, perform the following steps:

1. Turn ignition switch to RUN or ACC position and momentarily short the two terminals of the Program Connector (two-pin connector next to the remote keyless entry module. Remove LH luggage compartment trim panel to reach the connector). Both doors should lock and then unlock. Remove shorting pin.

2. Press any button on keyless entry remote transmitter. All front doors should lock and then unlock to verify that keyless entry remote transmitter has been programmed.

3. If door locks do not respond, press button again (up to three times maximum with the same keyless entry remote transmitter).

4. Repeat Step 2 to program additional keyless entry remote transmitters into the remote keyless entry module (up to a maximum of four keyless entry remote transmitters).

5. Turn ignition switch OFF. Both doors should lock and then unlock.

6. Check operation.

For the 2002 car, its super easy. Just watch this vid: How come its not showing up? Can we embed here? Anyway, all you do is turn the key to the "ACC" or "on" position 8 times very fast. Wait till you hear the doors lock and unlock. Then push the lock button on the remote. Should work fine after that.

Awesome thank you sir. I'm always scared to go sticking metal into plugs I've never seen.

Unfortunately though, my car does not have that assembly. My car looks like this:

Dangit photobucket: Here try this one:

As you can see, that assembly just isn't there. I checked the passenger side, and its not there either.

Apparently I don't.

So now its come to this. I need to find a way to be able to use the factory keyless entry remote, with some kind of aftermarket system. Why? I have yet to find an aftermarket system that comes with a remote of sufficient quality. All fall far short of factory durability and ease of use.

Honestly the remotes for our year cars BLOW, not nearly as nice as Fords used with the later models. I'd go aftermarket no question.

Is there any aftermarket in particular, that you would recommend? I've never had any luck with their remotes. The aftermarket ones always seem to really suck. Either you can't really operate them without taking the time to stop and look at the remote, or their quality is such @#$% that they fall apart in your hands. At least, that's been my experience. I've owned clifford, carbide, and viper.

Well hmmm, I have a viper remote start on my Lexus with the two way paging system and the remote seems pretty good. I actually wanted a different system but they recommended the one I got instead because they said the remotes on the kit I wanted were total craps and always broke. Which viper system did you have?

Aww man I'm not sure. It was back in '99 that I had it. Maybe I'll have to take a look at the newer stuff I guess.

Although, this brings up another question. See all that dirt in there? That's from having a vent instead of some kind of filter. What's up with that? That dirt is eventually going to end up on the inside of the trunk, which has the potential to end up in the interior. Not cool, Ford.

Viper Viper Viper.

After having my Viper smart start on one of my cars, I have no doubt I will go the same route again.

Alarm and smart start works flawless, range on the remote its incredible and you can't even tell the alarm its aftermarket.
My only complaint its the remote size, its pretty small for my hands and its difficult to push a button. Lol

Other than that its great.

I installed dei and viper for the majority of my install career and also ran them in two different vehicles. This last time it came time to upgrade my alarm having been out of the industry fulltime I asked some people still working and they recomended compustar. I went with them and have been happy ever since, you could do well with both.
