am I the only one surprised you upgraded to a solstice tranny? I didn' think that they had that much power to be concerned with?

Yeah I’d think a t56 magnum would be an upgrade. I’ve never heard the solstice tranny as being stronger.

This tranny is very similiar to the R154 tranny in 1JZ Toyota's. Alot of 600+hp Toyota guys upgrade to this tranny. The Chuck Mallet LS swapped Pontiac Solstice's retained this transmission. The company that makes the adapter kit claims it is good for 700ft.lbs. I'm not making much more than half of that and I'm also not drag racing so we'll see how it goes. I've already looked into having parts shot peened and cryo treated if necessary.

No doubt the T56 Magnum is an upgrade but at over $4000 after buying a bellhousing and slave cylinder. I have less than $1000 in this entire setup. It was worth giving it a shot.

The T56 Magnum is an aftermarket version of the TR-6060 I was using with the addition of a slip yoke and a removable bellhousing.

Outstanding, I admire a build where a shit ton of money gets spent in linear fashion. Nice to see you’re working the bugs out, sucks that it keeps happening in spectacular fashion. Honestly, I used to be one of those anti-LS guys but I’ve come around. I’d still Coyote swap mine before I went LS but my MM k-member supports LS engines too. It’s only natural that I try one someday. It helps that I’ve also taken the Holley HP path because it’s merely a wiring swap and tune away from fruition.

How much did your car weigh?

Now or before? I posted pictures in this thread but I don't remember exactly. I believe around 3204lbs with the stock motor with A/C removed ~30lbs, Sparco driver seat ~30lbs and about 57F/43R. The last time I weighed it with the LS/6speed, roll bar, torque arm, it was 3213lbs with 55F/45R. It will be less than that now since I'm going to a 5 speed and removed more weight from the car since then. I would guess around 3180 now. I also plan to replace the passenger seat with another Sparco which will cut another 20-30lbs taking it down to 3150 or less. Minimum weight for CAM-C is 3300lbs so I will be able to add ballast and be very close to 50/50 weight distribution. I have also NOT corner weighted the car so I'm sure some improvement can be made how it sits.

*Edit*
Stock 4.6/5speed, tubular K-member, Sparco Evo II driver seat, A/C removed
57.96% front/ 42.04% rear

LS3/TR6060, Full length subframe connectors, torque arm, 4 point roll bar(1.75" x .120 DOM) Just swapping motor and trans would have been a pretty significant weight loss if I hadn't added the other stuff back in.
54.7% front/ 45.3% rear

FedEx man dropped off the new wheels yesterday! Well, 2 of them at least. I expect the other 2 Monday.

They are S5R's from Cosmis Racing. 18x10.5 +20 front and rear. I know I'll need a spacer on the front to clear the coilover. I plan on running either a 275 or 285 tire, still undecided on that.

Damn that's light! Very nice work. I was wondering to see where you was at in relation to my base model 97 gt, I don't think they made very many, even though I don't have #'s to back it up. I weighed 3290, before a/c removal. Manual everything except mirrors. Nice car man I'm going to definitely keep watch.

Thanks man. If you're looking to cut weight I'd say the A/C and seats are the low hanging fruit. Moving the battery to the trunk gets some weight off the nose. Speakers and airbags are the other easy ones. Other than that there there aren't really big chunks of weight to be had. Tubular K-member 30+ lbs but pretty involved. After that your looking at tubular bumper supports, gutting doors, cutting out sheet metal, etc. A national champion AutoX guy told me his SN95 was 2600lbs before ballast. I don't know that I believe that especially with the iron block 4.6 but I won't say it isn't possible.

Good info. 2600 does sound far fetched, but hell you never know. I've wanted to go tubular, but I daily the car so I'm hesitant on that. Keep up the great work Man.

You must be talking about Brett. His car is crazy light but he whacked a lot of metal. He also shed a lot of weight by gutting the dash and removing most of it’s support tubing as well.

Up the next stage and get all the rotational weight reduced! Pulleys, Flywheel, driveshaft, rear ring gear, rotors...etc

Yes, talking about Brett. I'm pretty sure his doors are gutted. I just can't imagine finding another 600lbs to take out of my car. I can see maybe 40 lbs per door, another 50 lbs if you cut the front end off and did a tubular core support. He's running 315F/335R so his tire/wheel combo likely weighs more than mine. My dash is also gutted, not much weight to be gained there. The only real weight is the bar that the steering column attaches to. The rest is stamped sheet metal. You could get rid of the whole thing but you need a dash bar from the roll cage to mount the column to so you're gonna gain any weight you lose. He's also using a watts link which is likely a few pounds more than my panhard bar.

I also have an aluminum block vs his iron. Aluminum driveshaft, lightweight flywheel, and ATI 25% underdrive damper.

I can get you a 10# flywheel and cut off 5-7# from the ring gear.....how bad do you want to win?

Can’t attest for most of that but I know his wheels weigh 20 lbs each because I just sold a set.

Brett’s car is pretty badass. His racing record speaks volumes for what can be done with these cars.

It’s a shame he isn’t on the forums anymore.

Unfortunately my truck is occupying the shop so the car has been sitting here since October when I pulled the transmission. Kinda at the mercy of the weather waiting to put the new trans in so I can measure for the driveshaft. Probably go with The Driveshaft Shop this time, I wasn't very happy with the last driveshaft from PST.
