PI Cams (quick question)

Which are easier to install? (windsor or romeo?) I know the windsors have the cam gear attached. The romeos you need 2 new cam bolts. I will probably go with romeos...just wanted some opinions.

Romeo + Ford OE Cam tool = piece of cake. only problem is that the tool costs about $80-$130.......if you need to get a hold one of one, cover shipping + a returnable deposit and you can borrow mine. the cam bolts are like $7 each.

if not, with the windsor ones, you have to take off the timing cover and the chains and re-time everything (its easy to do, just a little more time consuming). but you will (or at least should) replace the timing cover gaskets, all three of them, which comes out to about $40 or so. have fun taking off the crank pulley bolt tho :

anderson tool = 100% metal. it MIGHT work, but the ford tool is a metal stem w/rubber triangle wedge thing. since you have to wedge it in between the aluminum timing cover and the metal chain, using metal to hold it in place isnt the best idea and increases the change of the chain slipping and you having to take off the timing cover and re-do all your work (especially since there is oil all over the place).

go to the anderson page and see if they still even sell the tool, when i did the swap i saw the pic they had and it looked reeeeaaaaaaaaallllllllly cheap so i sprang the extra $$$ and got the ford one

I ordered the Ford tool from Randy and it was the best 30 bucks I ever spent. The AFM piece is more expensive as well. I took the comments of folks like KDanner and it worked out great.

Make sure you have the tool situated correctly and those cam bolts are friggen tight. Check your timing marks when done and thats all you need to do. Well degree them if you want. Mine was easier though as I pulled the motor for other stuff...

i got it from randy, but no, its not $30. that was the price back in the day before ford (forgot who they get it from) decided to raise it. i think i paid $90ish or so for mine, but i really cant remember. i know i got it from him while he was still at MD about a year ago, i was trying to look for my thread but couldnt find it. it takes him about a week to get it in, then he has to ship it to you. ask him over on www.mustangmotorworld.com

yup, i know. like i said, i bought it from randy and ive only used it once (ok, twice, since i used it once on each side). if you need it, PM me and we can set something up. i wont charge you to use it, just ask that you pay for shipping (and dont break it... )
