okay, sorry if this question has been beaten to death a million times ( i know it has ) but i forgot the anwer.

A pi engine to swap into my 98 gt would be a literally basic unbolt motor mounts and all of the sensors. and drop in the pi engine plug in sensors and rebolt motor mounts. besides the 2nd coolant sensor?

the flywheel is the same right? so i could reuse my tranny.

Anything else I would have to do to do this?

and what year gt would it be best to get an engine from? an 04 gt?

you forgot you would have to swap out the fuel rails as well, but thats a perfect direct swap. other than that, yeah, its just the coolant sensor. im not sure, but you might have to swap the timing covers to allow you to reuse the brackets for the coil packs. i think for the 99/00 engine you dont have to, but for the 01-04 engines you do.

and yes, the flywheels are the same

don't they all use coilpacks? how would they be different?

and If I did the swap how would the fuel system work with it? cause a 98 is a return style fuel system with a returnless style pump if I'm not mistaken. So if i swithc it to a newer are they a returnless style or what?

PI stangs/engines use COP and returnless style fuel lines. To keep it compatible and an easy swap with the setup in the older NPI stangs, the two coil packs (potentially along with the NPI timing chain cover) and return style lines are just swapped over to the new PI engine. If you didn't do the PI intake swap already, then yes the new PI intake that comes with the new PI engine would need to be tapped for the 2nd sensor.

See the "PI headswap and you" sticky above.

exactly. you can keep the COP of the new engine, but it involves a lot of rewiring. easiest thing to do is get rid of the COPs and just reuse the coil packs and wires from the NPI setup.

as for the fuel system, you cannot mix a PI fuel system with an NPI fuel system. you have to go one way or the other. easiest way is to get the NPI fuel rails and install them on the PI intake. if not, then you have to convert it from a return style fuel system to a returnless style one, which involves replacing the tank, pump, and all lines.

yeah i would just put the 98 fuel lines on the PI motor, and use the coil packs. most 99-04 timing covers dont have the provisions for the coil pack bracket, but some very very early 99s did have the correct timing cover...

If Arron drops in here

1.How did you do your fuel.

2.How did you do your ignition, do coil on plug, or use coil packs?

Aaron, swapped his rails, and used the coil packs.

Yup. My wiring harness, coil packs and fuel rails are all from the NPI motor. As is the flywheel, alternator, t/b & plenum and injectors.
Swapping a PI into an NPI Stang is a cake walk.
