hey guys, was installing my PI intake and I cant seem to get all the 9 bolts loose from the old intake.....i got 4-5 off and cant get the other ones loosened. What do you suggest I do, I can feel the heads of the bolt starting to round off so i dont want to go any farther and eff stuff up. Any advice would be great....I wanna get this intake on before the snow flys.....

what i suggest is go to sears or any other store that sells tools and try to get your hands on some extractor sockets. these will ruin your current bolts, so go to ford first and make sure you can buy some new ones.

you have to hammer these sockets onto the old bolt. it will pretty much grip the bolt (this is where the old bolt gets ruined) and will allow you to use regular tools to remove the bolt+socket. the other method is to buy the ez-out taps, which require you to drill into the bolt, insert a tap, and remove the bolt that way. ive had better luck with the extractor sockets than the ez-out taps.

Try using some PB Blaster? I know heating is definitely not advisable on those bolts considering the plastic around them and the aluminum. Mine were fairly tight to get the first turn then they came out pretty easy..I would say just make sure you have a good fit with your socket and dont let it come off the bolt. Get as much leverage as you can :dunno: It will definitely be a bitch if you break one though :-\

yeah, I am trying to use a 10mm 6 point socket, and the kit came with all new bolts to use for the install of the new intake.....how much are those sockets you mentioned?

No problem, and good luck! Even if you do round them though, these sockets will still get them out. You never want to use them on a bolt that you don't have a replacement for, lol.

yup, exactly what i was going to say. i had to remove my t-stat bolt like this once, and i had pretty much rounded off the head completely, but the socket still worked. PITA tho because i had to remove the strut brace to be able to hammer on the socket....and i was using a cheap hammer and the head ended up flying off and landed about 2cm away from my windshield, :hammer:

haha that sounds pretty much like my luck :thumb:

worst part about it if it had happened was that i had replaced that windshield less than a year before because i shorted out a few wires and made the drivers seat shoot thru the window, hahahaha

good luck on yours tho, you'll really like the difference the intake makes
