3 months ago i had a PI intake put on my car, i just had both bolts holding the alternator to the block break, I believe this is because i no longer have the third bolt to take pressure off the bottom 2.

I know this swap is insanely common and need to find out if anyone has come up with a way to brace the alternator so all the pressure is no longer on the bottom 2 bolts.

Any info is appreciated.

Would you be able to post up a picture of how you mounted it, Im still useing my NPI alternator i believe the pi alternator has two mounting point on either side for the bracket to mount on. I've heard of several people useing an npi alternator with no bracket and no problems.

Hard to see because I painted it the same red as the crossover but here you go, non-pi alt with a PI bracket, works prefectly, just needed to drill holes for the wire holders

97lsxgt: how did you bolt the npi bracket to the PI intake?

joekd: is your alternator bolted to the bracket or did you use it for the wires only?

I used my stock npi bracket and npi alternator. The only piece of the original setup I didnt use was a small spacer that was on the top bolt. Mine is a 98 if that makes any difference.

You can use the same bracket as you did previously. the only purpose that the alternator bracket serves is a division for whether you want to run the npi or pi alternator. the Pi alternator has two bolts holding it to the bracket on the far left and right side bolting to the intake mainfold the exact same way that a npi bracket does. The npi one has a single hole that uses one bolt, be careful that reusing this bracket with PI Heads later on down the road if you decide to go that route will create a few issues if you reuse your existing timing cover (which most do)

The pi heads on the npi alternator setup will stretch the belt out and cause it to snap over time, so you need to grab a slightly longer belt.

hope this all helps!

Thanks Will, I actually have been considering a deal on a set of PI heads off a 4.6 f150 with 50,000 miles, price $350.00. i still need to do a bit of research and figure out what else i might need other than just gaskets.

I haven't used my alt bracket for along time well since I swaped the intake to pi back before the supercharger. Never had an issue. I believe mmr sells the bracket for the swap though.
