PI Swap on Older Engine

Question. I have a 1996 Mustang GT Convertible with 135K miles on it. I just purchased a set of used PI Heads for a great price along with the PI Intake Manifold (56K miles on them). I was considering porting and polishing the heads which would run me about $600 to do with MMR. I spoke to MMR today and the rep told me that he is worried that due to the higher compression and these being newer heads I may suck or burn more oil. He thinks that the increased compression would cause oil to leak around the piston rings.

I am looking for some consensus on this because if this is that case I will just go ahead get them cleaned and install them with stock cams and save up for a new engine. I just want to make sure I was not being talked into a new engine block. I guess another option would be to just install the PI Intake.

Thanks,
Jag

yup. put it this way....if your car is running good, not burning oil or anything before the swap, then you have nothing to worry about after the swap. just make sure the seals on the heads are good, and you will be good to go.

The car is currently running great. I have not complaints it is NOT burning oil. The two other folks that have had this car were Mustang enthusiasts and really took care of her. :thumb:

I did the same and if I drive normal (ie being nice with some getting on it) it doesn't eat any oil but there have been a couple of time where I have given her alot of hell and it burnt some oil along with alot of gas :coolsmiley: and it has 115K on the clock

I put a set of 10,000 mile PI heads/intake on my 138,000 NPI engine. That was 4 years ago and hundreds of 6500 rpm track passes ago. The car currently still makes 260rwp and 299 rwtq thru an automatic and has also had a few 75hp shots of N20 run through it. You'll be fine. For the record I think MMR are not very forthcoming with their modular "knowledge" JMO.

Mines the same way. If I dirve the balls off my car then it burns a little oil, but if I don't it doesn't seem to.
