basically you take all the parts off your 96 until you just have the bare engine. Now if your wanting to just swap the oil pans, you can. That will solve your issues with the the low oil sensor/light. It's pretty much a strait up swap. Should only take a day to do it. One thing to think about.... if your going to want to keep the front accessories true to the 96 year, you will want to change the timing cover. But if its all there, you should be fine. I have done probably around 10 of these in the last few years, if you have any issues, just let me know. OHH you will also have to change the oil pressure sending unit to your old one. Injectors are all the same all the way up to 04.

Just so you know, Long Tube Headers SUCK to put on. If you were going to install them, this would be the time.

Also, do you know what your stock engine is in your 96?? There was a few stangs built back then that was Windsor motors. Your 01 will be a Romeo. The reason is that your flywheel or flexplate will be different. Windsor has 8 bolts, Romeo has 6 bolts, if you didn't know.

I hope I helped.

Read the stickies and search, you will find all the info you need. Good luck...

The 96 is a Romeo, Windsors didn't hit the Mustang until 99 and were PI so that would defeat the need to do this swap :)

I had a Windsor in my 96. They had a few in the early production that were Windsors, but yes you are correct. the 99 & 2000 stangs were the only other years to have them.

The only way you got a Windor in your 96 is if someone put it there after it was bought new.
All 96's were Romeo.

You know anything is possible. I bought the car with 60k and I did have to fix some things on it. I did at the time, thought some things just didn't look right but I got what I got.

I cut the oil pan level sender wire. I used pink top injectors from the newer engine. I will add you have to pay attention to flexplate/flywheel bolts. I only use the driver side coolant sensor and no coolant level sender in expansion tank. I disconnected those.

The drivers side exhaust manifold has different studs. it's easier if you just change the whole thing. Good catch Jrgunn5150

Let us know how you like the swap.. its one of my options for my 97

what is to know? it helps it keep up with the 302 as best it can. It would be one of the first mods I would do on mine if it was not there but thankfully I do not need to worry about it.
