I have to go take my car to get inspected by the cops, i have headers, off road x-pipe, and bassani. Do I have to remove the x-pipe and put the stock back in (hope not). They are just going to check the loudness of the exhaust, with the db meter.

Yikes. Are you sure that its just a DB check? that seems like its excessive for that. Beware, from my understanding its illegal in cali to have ANYTHING off road on your car on the street.
+1 I agree. You should swap out that off-road x-pipe. They are definietly going to check to see if you have cats because it's so easy to check for them. It'll make your car a little more friendly to the decibel meter with the stock cats on there as well so you actually might pass.

just have some magnaflow highflow cats welded into your current X-pipe.... they will help with emissions reduction and help you pass a smog test should they decide to subject you to one...also cats will reduce noise output as well.

if you really want to be shady you can just take your cats and cut them in half lengthwise and weld them around your pipes so that it looks like you have em. my buddy did that on his shit and they never knew. At least until emissions time came. If you really wanted to do something illegal just take the VIN plate and sticker and put it on another car and drive that up there, but that is just a long shot idea if you really want to dick with them

See the responses you got on the corral. Claiming ignorance is not going to save you when those cops take a look under your car with a mirror and see no cats. They're not stupid, they'll know that the smelly exhaust and the rumble=no cats and you'll be bent over like a new guy at prison.
You may need to take the papers that came with your headers to certify their CARB number for them to be legal in California. If they do not have a CARB number they are illegal.
California is probably the strictest State when it comes to modifying emissions controls on your car. I know a lot of people talk about having their car modified with no problems in California (never been caught) but if you end up having your car looked at and they see aftermarket headers and no cats I have to believe they will see dollar signs in their eyes for "revenue enhancement."
There's a reason that a pipe is sold as "Off Road"; it won't meet emissions requirements. Basically, I would put the whole stock exhaust back on, unless you like to gamble. Basically the law usually sounds like...

Dude California rapes you in the ass if they find any emissions equipment gone. I'm not trying to be a dick but it was a pretty stupid move to take the emissions stuff off your car if you live in Cali. I can see doing the OR pipe and just swapping it back to the stocker for inspection but that'd be as far as you should go and even then if you get a cop who knows what he's looking at you're fucked.

If you have an O/R X or H pipe your not going to pass an emission test or even a DB test. Even here in Maine we dont have emissions but we are required to have cats, there is no way your going to get away with it so just put the stock pipe back on and you should be fine. I like my car a lot better now w/ a Catted Bassani X pipe compared to the O/R H I had on it before. You just got lucky that they didnt check the car over all that well. Chances are that people dont get that lucky, especially in that state.
