I used a similar method when I painted my Cobra Calipers, except, I read somewhere that if you put a very light coat of Vaseline on the letter's surface you can spray paint everything and, with your fingernail, chip the paint off of the letters. It worked incredibly well for me. I will probably use this method again when I change the color to go better with my new wheels.

The finissh looks "liquid" for sure
Good idea. I found by just wrapping a paint stir stick with a paper towel and running it across the top that after 4-5 wipes most of it was off and it only needed touching up. This time it came out much smoother now if the stuff would just hurry up and dry.....

I am happy I took the time to smooth out both the raised "Edelbrock" that was across the top as well as the model number an size that was across the mounting flange. I felt a little strange doing it at the time since its not like its a bad name an most people would love to have it but as you said they look nice and smooth together now.
